Is the USA making the same mistake with Egypt that it made when stabbing the Shah of Iran in the back?

Iran had a democratic government post Shah until the Ayatollah became paramount a few months after the Shah went into exile but the Ayatollah soon formed a new dictatorship and a bloodbath followed. Iran had been a big supporter of peaceful relations with all neighbors and was one of the first governments to recognize Israel but was replaced with a pariah state. Iran was a US ally then replaced by a religious-fanatic hatred of the USA. It seems terribly familiar when viewing current events in Egypt.

The USA has a history of pulling the plug out on its allies.

    Israel should take note.

Thirty years has passed since the Islamic Revolution of Iran.

The US did NOT "stab the Shah of Iran in the back". The handle you saw sticking out of the Shah's back was not a knife, but the handle used to make him walk and talk. He was a puppet, not a leader.

Iran had had two democratic governments before the Shah went into exile, but Russia and Great Britain, and then the CIA messed those up, to avoid Iran's nationalization of it's oil resources. This, and not religion, caused the hatred of Iranians for the US.

The people of Egypt are fighting FOR democracy, not against it.

The US had no business propping up Mubarak for Israel. Good riddance to Mubarak.
