I know just how you feel, and have been in your situation several times. You some how feel that taking the money cheapens the act. Well, look at it from their point of view. If you lost your dog, and someone found your dog, and they had provided a safe, caring environment, and you had the money to reward them, you would offer a reward. If they took it, would you think any less of them? Most likely not. But, saying this isn't going to make you feel any better about it. Two things I have done is turned the money down, asking them to donate it to a dog charity. I have also taken the money, and donated it myself to a charity, in their name.

But I'll be honest, if I was hurting for money, I would figure maybe their is a reason I found the dog. Fate was taking care of two problems at once. Helping the dog, and helping me.

All I know is no matter what you do, you did a very good thing saving the dog.

Well this is just my opinion:

I would do exactly as you did- I would not accept the money. If I had a daughter and grandson living with me, yes I would feel better if I had the extra money but to ACTUALLY take it would go against everything in me. I would never feel someone should give me money if I found something they truly cared about. But hell, if you need it and they are insisting, then take it! It's not so much money that you would freak about and if you want, just tell them to give you like ten bucks or something less than the a hundred.

Honestly the money was for compensation for watching their dog and taking care of him. The owners where just being grateful that a kind hearted woman found there dog. No telling what could of happened, If it was me I would except it, not right away but if they insisted then Yes I would take it.

Honestly: if I were the owners of the dog, I would feel a little offended if you didn't take the money. You could cash the check and donate to the humane society if you don't feel morally good about keeping the money for yourself.

Maybe you could look at it from their point of view:

Perhaps the dog meant a lot for them - enough that they would be uncomfortable to leave you, who saved their dog, without a token of their appreciation. Anyway, they offered the money as a token of goodwill; I think that it is only polite to accept it in the spirit in which it was offered.

Its really nice of u to think "dont take money". But they offered and they GAVE it to u as a reward. Just take it. Because u didnt steal it.
