Can A Computer Monitor Be Used as a HDTV?
I have a Dell U2410 24inch monitor. The specs say it can display 1080p, and it has an HDMI in-port. Obviously, the monitor does not have a TV tuner, but could I hook it up to my TimeWarner Cable DVR and watch recorded shows using the DVR's tuner? The Dell service rep suggested I needed "a special adapter" but she couldn't clarify what she meant by that.
I appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you.

Yes, you can use it with your set-top box, as long as the monitor supports HDCP.
No other adapter is needed (the rep meant a set-top box, which you have).

If your DVR has HDMI out, you can connect the monitor, but it won't work unless your computer monitor is HDCP compliant. HDCP prevents DVRs and Blu-ray players from transmitting video or audio to a device that doesn't have copyright protection measures installed.
I'm not sure if any HDCP adapters even exist. You might need to run your cable box input through an HDCP compliant video card on your computer and then to your computer monitor. It might just be cheaper to buy a 24-inch HDTV.
