3 year old won't stay with teacher/group?
We had a gymnastics class today where my 3 year old needed to stay with the teacher without me for the first time. He kept wandering away and the teacher would call him back and he wouldn't come. I ended up needed to go down and instruct him to stay with her several times. Is this normal and any suggestions to make this easier on both of us?

Mine did the same at 3. Now at 4 he listens to the teacher. Just his age. My son is sort of independent. He likes to play with kids but he likes to play alone too. He probably doesn't understand that there is a routine or a rule. But he was in a class where the wanderers were allowed to wander. He had another class where he didn't want to stay with the group and he cried. I took it out of the class figuring he was supposed to be having fun and if he's not having fun what's the point. But now at 4 he is different and no problems. Anyway, that's what worked for me...

It sounds pretty normal. My nephew had trouble listening when he was younger too but he has ADHD. Maybe you should figure out why he keeps wandering away - is he getting distracted by other things?

Yes, this is normal. Most kids go through separation anxiety as they get older. Start branching out more with him by putting him in other situations where you will not be there so he can start to adjust.

He is probably still too young with too short of an attention span for this sort of activity.
