Am I obese or just overweight?

I have looked at a number of sites to find out how overweight I am. My MD thinks I don't need to lose any weight, but I know otherwise. My BMI is 25.5, but I have a bit of a belly. So I looked at a number of sites to calculate my body fat. The various calculators range from 26% (just a bit overweight) to 32% (obese). Calculators have everything in between at 27, 28 and 30. I thought the Navy would have a good calculator and it said 28%, indicating I need to lose about 10 pounds and 3" around the waist. What gives?

Update:

Well, my waist is 40.5", but for my height of 71" I understand that my waist should be half that at 35.5", so the BMI, being quite close to the correct range, is not that well confirmed by my waistline, if that is a good indication. ???

If your BMI is more than 25, it counts as overweight. The range is 25-29.9. Obese is when your BMI is more than 30. But if you're physically active, your BMI may not count as overweight because some of your body fat might come from the muscles. Your waist measurement should less than 40 inch to be considered as normal standard for guys.

I guess by the name tim you're a dude!

BMI means bull if you're an athelete but if you think you're obese fat then the best way to measure at home is your waist measurement; it should be under 40 inch (102cm) for a guy & 35 inch for a woman.
