Why did everyone except for me experience the rolling black out in Houston?

I live in Beach City Texas but go to school 3 miles north in Mont Belvieu.

Mont Belvieu had the rolling black out but Beach City didn't.

Is there any way to explain that?

(please just serious answers)

The two places could have been on different grids. Some of it depended on the amount of power that was being used in various places.

They were "discontinued" until further notice. Its possible that you were "next" on the list, but they discontinued the blackouts before that was possible. My power in my house did not go out either but I know many others, including my job, that had theirs go out. I went on my energy companies website and that is were I got this information.

    February 2, 2011 - Power Emergency

    ROTATING OUTAGES DISCONTINUED

    BUT CONSERVATION STILL NEEDED

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has issued a notice that rotating outages are no longer needed at this time; however, there is a strong possibility that they will be required again this evening or tomorrow, depending on how quickly the disabled generation units can be returned to service.

Please note that some consumers are still out of power due to the winter storm conditions.

Energy conservation is still critical during peak demand hours this evening between 6 and 10 pm.

Consumers and businesses are urged to reduce their electricity use to the lowest level possible, including these steps:

    * Limit electricity usage to only that consumption which is absolutely necessary. Turn off all unnecessary lights, appliances, and electronic equipment.

    * Businesses should minimize the use of electric lighting and electricity-consuming equipment as much as possible.

    * Large consumers of electricity should consider shutting down or reducing non-essential production processes

To report any power outage to the appropriate Transmission and Distribution Utility (TDU) for your area directly, please select from the following TDU phone numbers (read more).

There are certain places that they did not black out. Hospitals. police stations, fire departments, and schools are probably not blacked out. You must be on the same line are one of the things they did not black out.
