Why is the US standing by watching Mubarak pay his thugs to smash reporters cameras and shut out the world?

Why do we stand by and let some dictators do this stuff? And then others like Saddam we crush?

Now we will have no way of knowing what Mubarak is doing to his people. Or does our government not want us to know or even care?

Why do we continue to support dictators so openly and how can the Egyptians not condemn us for letting this happen while we continue to funnel millions into the Mubarak regime?

I think if was from Egypt this would give me a sour taste in my mouth.

We don't have any say in the matter. Mubarak knows he's on the way out and it is unlikely that he will be able to restore order and serve out his term while sponsoring truly free elections. So all we can do is wait and try to deal with whomever comes out on top.

We have always backed friendly dictators over unfriendly democracies. Mubarak isn't doing anything US police didn't do during the riots and demonstrations in the 1950s-1960s, aside from the latest shooting incidents which he said were not authorized. About 100 people died after being shot by police and national guardsmen during our race riots. Four died in our unauthorized shootings at Kent State in the 1970s.

We would never have crushed Saddam if 9/11 hadn't made it possible. Bush and Cheney had come out against "Clinton Style Nation-building Exercises in the campaign. But Americans were looking for payback and killing a few guys in some caves in Afghanistan was not going to be enough, so Bush took the top guy off our enemies list and decided to "bring democracy" to Iraq.

There is not a lot we can do. We can't police the world. I do agree we should not give them any money unless they get their act together and form some kind of democracy.

I heard Mubarak has between 40-60 Billion dollars. Most we gave then he invested in Chili's and has homes all over the world and one in Washington D.C.

While his people make less than 2 dollars a day, live in poverty.

I just hope the people get what they need and not allow some other corrupt leader to come in and promise them everything and they get worse off.

    Reporters should get out!

It's not our job to police the world, though we sometimes act like it. Saddam Hussein and Mubarak are on completely different levels.

Saddam Hussein was allowed to get away with it for years. It was only when he invaded Kuwait and in doing so threatened high oil prices (and the economies of the West) that he became enemy number 1

I think we should be getting out all Americans and any Egyptian Christians that meet our immigration laws.

If you look at our Egyptian immigration it has been extremely biased in favor of Egyptian Muslims. I do not know if this was Egypt's policy or our own.

Reporters were being attacked by thugs from both sides, it's not like there isn't a good reason to get them off the street.

How do we know they are his thugs? How do we even know they support Mubarak? Have any of them been interviewed? How do we know they aren't just pissed off because their homes, shops, and country's historical artifacts have been looted and destroyed?

We should be doing nothing and not funding the dictator.

But that'll never happen, we have funded dictators as long as I can remember.

They don't want to stop them. Then it hits the news and it is brought to everyone's attention. then we all know what goes on even with reporters...
