A cold sore is a small fluid filled blister that usually appears on the outer edge of the lip. They are caused by a virus infection and are very contagious.
You will know that ‘tingling itchy' feeling. Once you feel the tingle the affected area will soon become red and begin to swell.
A few days after the blister bursts a crust will form and this a good sign that the cold sore is beginning to heal. From the 'tingle' to the cold sore clearing up will usually take between 10 to 12 days.
It will go away, don't worry.

Okay so I had a cold sore once and what your want to do is not pick at it so it will heal faster and not leave a scar. Use abreva and apply it every morning and night. This really works and only take it a couple days to heal. What ever you do do not pick at the scab it might leave. Don't freak out it will go away and trust me everybody has had one. The internet is not always 100% correct don't trust the internet all the time except good answers on yahoo :D.
I hope this helped

Indeed this is herpes, but not the herpes that is commenly talked about as a sexually transmitted disease. You have Herpes type 1 or HSV-1 for short; ie the one that give you cold sores. The one that is sexually transmitted (and give you symptoms on your genital areas) is Herpes type 2 or HSV-2. Hope this helps.
