Car cranks but won't start/battery?

Last week my car cranked but wouldn't start. This happened immediately after I had been driving it for some time. An hour or so later, the roadside assistance arrived and before they could figure out what was the problem, it started fine. Go figure.

Few days later, same problem. This time, the car never started up again. I waited some time and noticed that as I was trying to start it, the lights on the dashboard were fading. Yesterday the tow truck came and was able to start it with a battery jump. It drove fine all day.

This morning, same problem. Cranks a bit, but doesn't start up.

Is this a battery problem? Or something else? Please help-I'm clueless.

Update:

it definitely does not crank "normally." it's hard to explain, but it stops after only cranking for a second or so.

It is a 2006 Aveo.

if it's not cranking 'normally', it's most likely a battery problem.... if it cranks 'normally' but doesn't start, it could be an ECM issue that you need to get a mechanic for.

i would say the battery has a weak cell and not holding the charge. go and get yourself a good battery. if you mean by cranks a bit, do you mean it just turns over a little then quit? i would say the battery is shot or the battery terminals are all corroded and the alternator can,t charge the battery.

clean all connections to the battery. seem like they are dirty and tighten them up good. I would also have the battery tested.

It depends on what kind of car you have.

But I had the same problem and it was the ignition module.
