why do anime nerds act like there in an anime?

Don`t get me wrong i like watching anime but people tend to take this stuff to far example:

1.i went to an anime convention and i couldn`t believe how many people tried to act cool by making anime expression and doing peace signs

2.almost all the cosplayers are fat as hell and look nothing like the character look i don`t know what there trying to accomplish by dressing in that costume they can barely fit into are insecure?are they trying to look cool?all i know is leave it to the pros

3.there mostly nerds with no lives i mean wtf do you have any idea how much i have seen imaginary anime battles trust me that is not cool god i hope i don`t feel that insecure about my life to the point were i end up like that.

and if you found yourself offended by it you most likely yourself are an otaku ner who needs to get over a comment for once.

please explain this.

Update:

@the naughty hey read the bottom half of my post yeah thats what i thought

Hmm well I don't find it offensive at all.. Haven't you ever thought that maybe they're doing it just for fun and because they like the characters they're cosplaying as? It doesn't necessarily mean they're insecure or 'nerdy' :)

Meh, I think the reason a lot of 'em are kinda large is 'cause manga and anime aren't easy to get a hold of...so they spend a lot of time in front of a computer (trust me, I would know...but I know when to get away from the computer and see the sun!).

Plus, people who are otaku and waaaay too into anime are usually incredibly unpopular at school, so the only place that they are 'cool' is at a con. They usually try showing off their incredible 'skills' by showing off how much they know.

That isn't to say that ALL cosplayers are fat and look nothing like the character (I know you said almost, so...but I'm just sayin' this so others don't get mad), I know of a few that are in decent shape, and take their cosplaying seriously and only pick ones that work for their figure.

...Oh, and I think the peace sign thing, is more of a natural thing. When my friends take pictures of me, or someone who wants me to pose for something...I always do a peace sign...I don't know why, but I think it's an Asian thing. >.<

I watch a ton of anime but i dont really consider myself a nerd. so i can answer this non biased like.

    1. I have a friend who does peace signs because shes asian and wants to do that thing because she thinks its cute. I actually subconciously pick up on the body language of anime. I often tend to put my hand behind my head scratching it when im nervous or thinking and i also sit in my chair like L from deathnote sometimes (but i did that before).

    2. they just like the characters and are just dressing like them. To me it isnt really cosply but more like just a normal costume. There are some really good ones out there though. Its just for fun or they want to feel like a character or simply express thats a character they like rather than "hey i look like this character i will make it more obvious". Ive never even met a fat anime fan, they were all either average or actually really hot.

    3. Nothing wrong with that really. Not my thing but i know its just for fun and is a good way to escape your mind from bullshit. Once they leave conventions they just return to a shitty life so why not screw around?

if you think everything you said is true you are pretty much just an immature idiot who steriotypes.

You sound like the insecure one, and no, I'm not an anime otaku. I do agree that the anime peace signs can get a little annoying, as well as the expressions. I do get what you are saying about fat people dressing up and doing it horribly wrong. Everyone is just trying to have fun is all, but I still cringe when I see an overly obese girl dress as a character with small or hardly any clothes at all. These people aren't nerds with no lives. Most of them enjoy anime and are just having fun, not to say that there aren't any weirdos. You can find weirdos or "nerds with no lives" in just about any kind of thing.

First, do not criticize my orthography because I'm from Latin america

Well, going to the point, I like anime, u can say that I'm otaku, but I think the people who likes the anime have that problem that you're specifying, why?...

Maybe I love anime, but that isn't the center of my life, I love sports, I love american TV shows, etc... But that kind of people that you're saying seriously... Have several MENTAL problems (i don't want to offend anybody) because there it's people that think all they watch in the TV or Internet it's true and I don't like, example:

-> Last time i went in an anime convention I bough a Death Note and for my surprise, many people came to me and ask me for write names in it...

I mean, the problem it isn't that you like anime, the problem it's act like is real because I'm an otaku but I'm clear that I'm not going to believe it's real

Well, sorry if I'm repeating the same always but it's my opinion, and again, I'm from Latin America so excuse me for orthographyc mistakes

Well this is pretty offensive to the cosplayers... I personally don't really care what some anime fan does. The only anime fans that kind of annoy me are the ones that act immature, you know, the squealing, hyperactive ones (it is OK to do that online, I have no problem with that, but in rl it does get annoying) but since I do like anime, but I am not into the 'scene' I don't find them a problem.

But really, who cares? The anime fandom is not supposed to be all serious. I don't get riled up about how someone lives their life as it is none of my business anyway and I am just pretty lax about stuff like this. I really couldn't give a damn. It is my motto to "Live and Let Live".

  • i love anime too so much and i've noticed that most people who pretend to be anime characters are over weight. i adore anime but i'm not fat or try to be a japanese person. May be it,s because anime characters are thin and usually pretty and they wish they can be like that two. I guess it's something they can look forward to in a day. it could be that they proberly sit in front of the computer all day and eat junk.

i apologize if i may have affended anyone. please dont sit on front of the computer all day!!!

First of all: This IS kinda offensive. No, scratch that, INCREDIBLY offensive. I have never personally met an anime "nerd", let alone one who was fat, let alone one who tried dressing in a costume for thier character.

Second: If you go to a convention for ANYTHING, you WILL find peple who take it to far. what did you expect?

Thirdly: You do realize that insecurity and anime have nothing to do with each other. If someone is insecure, they probably wont go out of thier way to dress up in front of hundreds of people to try and appear cooler? That doesnt make any sense.

And FOURTH: If you dot like the way people express themselves, screw you, because nobody else cares. If it makes someone happy to dress up and be an idiot, let them do it, because its none of your F*CKING buisness.

Source(s): WTF were you expecting, buddy. ps, i read the bottom of your post. I am gettin all pissed over this comment because honestly you knew very well it would piss a lot of people off, you really had no question to begin with. also, i have no ida what okatu means or whatever the hell that is, if its meant to be offensive i honestly dont care. Im not letting it get to me because i HAVE a life and im not wasting any time putting other people down for thier interests.

    1. stereotyping much?

2.Again Stereotyping? and I think its an even raitio...... I see far more normal weight people that either above or below. Plus no one could ever look exactly like an anime character technically nearing physically impossible.... you know because we're 3D not 2D and aren't proportioned in an odd way?

3.You know you say you've seen anime...could you possibly be reffering to yourself? and most anime fans i know have lives.... you know social ones?! and i shall state STEREOTYPING!

    1. They have no life

    2. They feel better about them selves by being wanna be anime characters.

    3. They think just by putting on a wig and clothes they are "cool"

    4. They act like they are anime gods and they know everything about anime.

    5. It is OK to like anime but those idiots take it too far and they make anime look bad.

    6. Also anime freaks smell like S***!

    7. The are in their own world and they know nothing about the real world.

    8. They are in love with anime girls. i mean seriously they freakin fanticize that they r with a hot anime girl.

    9. They are bunch of fags.

    10. Dont flag my comment. i am just stating the FACTS!
