Tdang,
Congratulations on resolving to become healthier and losing some body fat!
In my personal experience, what you seek in terms of a fat loss rate is an exceptionally high amount. Generally, with those who do everything right (i.e. eat what their told, exercise regularly - sometimes twice per day, get quality sleep every night etc.) can lose up to around 2 pounds of body fat per week...and even then they can never lose at this rate for any longer than a month or two. So over five months, you'll be pushing at the absolute limit.
And realize that when I say 2 pounds/week I am referring to pure fat loss - not total weight. A lot of fad diets will not only lose fat weight, but also muscle weight and water weight. There is a difference. Your goal should be to maximize fat loss, and minimize muscle loss.
That said, even if you 'only' manage to lose 30 pounds, you will absolutely feel like a new person, and look incredible! Building a beautiful body is a life-time pursuit, and not something that should be thought of as a quick fix. Develop good nutritional and exercise habits, and you'll be rewarded for life.
If I were you, I would look at signing up to Precision Nutrition. They'll give you a complete 'how to' with regards to eating and training - and have achieved results close to that which you are wanting. I have no vested interest in the company, I just truly believe that they are the best at what they do.
Hope that helps,
Jimmy.

The Answer is YES! Perfect timing for you to start. The safest way to lose weight is to lose it slowly. The healthiest amount of weight to lose is 2 pounds per week. Losing any faster than this will through your body into starvation mode. The first week you will lose the most weight but this will not be fat but rather water weight. I hope you have a nutritious diet that you plan to go by. Learning how to read food labels is your best bet for keeping your weight off after you have lost it. Also, since you plan to work out your body will need certain nutrients in order to not only give you energy but also to help repair your muscles after a workout. If you are unsure what your body needs, shoot me an email or google it for more information. Good Luck.

Considering your goal you will need to do exercises that are difficult. These include squats, deadlifts, standing military presses and any rowing motion. You will need to engage your entire body to reach the goal you are striving for. Compound exercises are difficult but the rewards far outweigh what you will get with isolation exercises (think cable flyes, etc.). You will need to work hard, for a short duration (2 to 3 sets of 3 different exercises) and focus on form and working the negative as best as you can (lower the weight slowly for negative resistance).

Thanks for that question. Most people who set out to lose weight as a goal ether fail or gain the weight back. It's more important to know what lifestyle changes to make. I recommend a website maintained by Fatso McFatass. See the link below.

Build muscle and train for flexibility as well. Eat properly and sufficiently. They are equally important.
