I definitely feel that learning Spanish is extremely important for Americans to do. I studied Spanish in school for many years. All students should have a second language and Spanish is most important for all the reasons you gave in the question.

I am sorry that we do not value the learning of Spanish at an earlier age than 7th grade. When chldren are very young they absorb so much so quickly and learn the correct sounds.

I am in the opinion that, even though learning a second language other than English is important, that more non-English speaking Americans (documented and undocumented) should be learning English. It is our national language and has been since its inception. It's like having a bunch of French people move into Germany and ask the Germans to learn French.

If Americans want to deal better with foreigners at home and abroad, getting at least a general understanding of their language and putting forth an effort to use it shows that you are not ignorant.

However, it should not be mandatory to learn Spanish as a second language to operate within the borders of our country.

You pretty much explained why we all should know Spanish. However, it’s for similar reasons that immigrants from the South should know English. I know this is more about how bilingual education education is controversial because "they should speak our language if they’re going to live here!" Yes, fine, fine...but is bilingual education a bad idea? Yes, because it doesn’t offer enough languages.

Here’s how my language education class will work. The second language people will learn will either be what’s spoken where they live or what’s most spoken in a neighboring country. This means US citizens learning Spanish and immigrants learning English. The third language taught will be a major language of the student’s choice. By "major," I mean a language that is either one of the most spoken languages, or has a disproportionate percentage of professionals among its speakers (e.g., Dutch, Korean).

Personally, I think people should know at least seven languages: one Indo-European, one Afro-Asiatic, one Sino-Tibetan, one ancient, an isolate, a conlang, and a dying language. Opting for practicality with seven major languages would be fine so long as they’re spread out among language families. In that case, the ideal would be learning Arabic, English, Japanese, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.

Sorry to mention the cause we have become expert jobs from different international locations is due to the fact that now we have eleven exceptional paintings visas for corporations to receive the ones members at a miles decreased pay price. Skill has not anything ot do with it and neither does language. Most colleges require youngsters or no less than schools to have a designated quantity of overseas language. There isn't any cause we do not have it in grade institution right here like different nations that require pupil s to be trained repeatedly two overseas languages so they're in a position to carrier the wealthier vacationer that come to their nation and so they depend at the earnings...We don't seem to be a long way at the back of that experience now we have helped different international locations to take over our productiveness in production, apparel, and so forth. I dont believe anybody needs to be ignorant, I believe its a disgrace we don't get extra all the way down to truly ancient original studying and instructing experience it used to paintings and all of the handy approaches now we have in these days, end up to be now not reducing the grade. We have overlooked the significance of schooling and attention an excessive amount of at the electives alternatively. We are falling brief due to the fact that well schooling and secondary schooling is just too expensive for such a lot. Some nations like men and women not to be informed, they are able to use them inexpensive and they're attempting to achieve this right here. Its too unhealthy our executive is watching extra to support tremendous industry( that they get fine perks from) get richer, then support the way forward for this nation. I wager too many simply dont care. We are extra worried with taking cost international of others industry curiosity, then to hold this nation and its men and women.

I think we should be teaching a foreign language as a requirement in schools, we are a country of immigrants and we have many neighbors from the south here... yes, spanish should be taught to all as a second language. In Europe, nearly everybody knows a second language. We NEED to jump on the bandwagon.
