Well our neighbor thats on the other side of the backyard If that makes sense keeps going on top of our shed even though it's like feet away from the fence I will always hear the banging ofthe shed since it's metal u know how it sounds when someknes sits or goes on it it makes noise in the middle of the night and my dogs will bark but I didnt think it was in our yard until I saw handprints (when it's dusty u leave a mark) and dents as if someone goes on it ofcourse no one in my family does this so yah help? I live in a bad city so it's sorta scary to go confront someone without getting beat up (not really nut I don't want to take chances)

if you are living in a bad city you only have one solution since it is not wise to confront people - i do understand that part of city life - so this is my suggestion

trade one of the dogs for this one or add him to your collection - i happen to have four of them
he would be happy to babysit the shed all night long - they love that sort of entertainment

1. Preparation.
Before you can start building your outdoor shed you need to do some preparations. First, check in your local zoning and building department whether a permit is required for such type of construction. Then choose a place in your backyard where the shed is going to be. Ensure that your shed will not be positioned over important land lines such as water or phone lines.
Finally, pick a design for your shed. You can design it yourself or buy cheap shed plans online. The second option is highly recommended if you are not very experienced, because the plans contain full instructions and drawing and you will be sure you are going to build something functional.
2. Build the foundations.
The most important part of the wooden sheds are their foundations. There are two main types of foundations – skid and concrete. Building a skid foundation is considered simpler and cheaper. It requires some gravel and a lumber lattice which is used to stabilize the shed and ensure no water goes inside.
The concrete foundations are permanent and can’t be moved (well at least not without special equipment) so think twice before building it. It’s however a lot more stable and long living than the skid foundations of course.
3. Build the walls.
If you are building a wooden shed you can make each wall of two pieces of plywood and a lattice between them. This way the walls will be robust enough and will provide a good insulation. You can start building by preparing frames of skids and joists which to form the entire construction.
Alternatively you can build much simpler walls with wide planks, joined with 2 or 3 beams together. This however is not a very good solution because the walls will not isolate well from the outside temperature and sweat.

Go have a conversation. Introduce yourself, be friendly, and ask for his help in solving a mystery. (For the sake of convenience I'll assume it's a 'he'.) Stand at a 90-degree angle, not facing him directly (further showing this isn't a confrontation, but a neighborly conversation). "I've been hearing sounds like someone or something is getting up on the shed, but I'm not sure. Do you know anything about it?" Be puzzled and curious, not pissed. "Have you seen or heard anything?" You'll be able to tell a lot by his body language and voice tone. If he's nervous, 'give him permission' to admit it's him, "I suppose it's a nice place to hang out and watch the stars, any chance you've been up there to check it out?" Who knows, might be a quiet spot he's found to get away from a marital spat and have a smoke. If he seems candid that it's not him, then ask if he knows who it might be, since you've seen handprints. If it's not him, or he doesn't want to admit it, close the conversation with, "hey, let me know if you see anything. I don't want anybody back there, it makes my dogs upset, and it makes me nervous." Then spend a few minutes getting to know him a little -- who knows? -- getting to know your neighbors is almost always a good thing.
If the direct-conversation thing isn't your style, then go buy carpet tack strips and glue them to your shed roof, about a foot apart, vertically so the rain will drain. That'll take care of it. Nobody -- humans or animals -- are willing to sit on those. Gorilla glue would likely do the trick. Good luck!
Oh, and PS: the shooting thing is only legal if they're inside your house. If they're outside you have no rights to shoot anyone, except directly in self-defense. This comment is more for the other guy than you.
PPS: I live in a place where people don't have to be afraid to talk to each other, so I probably don't understand your circumstances. Trust your gut. Try the carpet tack-strips.

You may never know. It probably wasn't even your neighbor. It could also be some people climbing over the fence and onto ur shed as a shortcut of some sort. But like I said, you'll never know. You don't have to confront the person, but take an evening to look outside & watch what happens. If you do see someone climb onto ur shed at night, try going to a dollar store or somewhere & get a "No Tresspassing" sign and put it somewhere visible. If you want, you can try to put your dogs closer to the shed so it'll prevent anyone from wanting to use your backyard again.
Source(s): People used to jump our fence & run through our backyard when police show up to break up fights & stuff. We put that sign up & stationed our dogs closer to the fence, & we never had this problem again. - How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.

The noise could be someone just hitting the shed with a stick or other object. The hand prints are another thing. How about pouring something oily or sticky on that side of the shed. It might not stop the person but it's worth a try. To get your point across ( I know someone is doing this ) add a bunch of food coloring to whatever you use. It will eventually wear off your shed, but will stair a persons hands or clothing.

Put out some motion detector lights. When something moves, the light comes on. When the light comes on, look out the window. Any one jumping up and down on your shed is nuts. Be very careful and call the cops and make a complaint. If you get a pic of the guy on the shed, that will chinch it. Are you sure it isn't some critter?

Pour some oil or grease on your roof so if they go up there they will slip off and break there neck!
