Is it ok to drive a car I just bought?

Hi all, I'm picking up a used car tomorrow. It has MOT, will be taxed by the seller before I pick it up and I will have insurance just before I drive it. But cos I'd just have bought the insurance, it wouldn't appear on askmid immediately. Is it still nice and legal for me to drive it or will the police not be too happy about it if they stop me??

I have to pick up the car tomorrow, seller sorta made it clear he doesn't want it on his driveway after tomorrow and none of my friends with fully comp insurance are able to pick it up for me...

You will be covered so long as you have started the policy and made sure the start time on the policy is before you pick it up.

    Yes.

The police may stop you because the insurance isn't on the MID as yet, but if you can explain that you have just set up the policy, and can give them the name of the insurance company and the policy number that the insurance company provided to you (or better still show them a cover note or Certificate of Insurance) they will accept that. They may call the insurance company to check, but if you are polite and patient there will be no problem.

However, the chance that they will stop you is very slim.

    Hello

Theses days as soon as you start the insurance you will not be stopped by the police as the records are updated straight away. Just in case carry the Name of you Insurance Company and Policy Number with you. If they do stop you they will phone and check and when OK you will be let on your way.

As long as it has tax and mot and you have insurance and a licence it is legal for you drive the car, make sure you and the seller fill in the relevant parts of the V5 registration document and show that to the police if they do stop you.

Providing the vehicle is road worthy, Taxed and with an M.O.T and Insured in your name you would be legal. Make sure you have all the documents for the car signed by the seller and a bill of sale stating the vehicle is now your property.

Yes it is legal. If you have a cover note or certificate of insurance have it with you - if not make sure you have the policy number, insurers details and their phone number so the Police can check if they wish.

No. the vehicle could desire to have a broking temp, a visit enable, or a enable that helps it to be taken to an emission try, or VIN examine. in case you have finished insurance insurance on yet another vehicle, study your coverage and notice in case you have a binder that helps you to purchase a vehicle, and have a grace era allowing you time to sign in and insure the vehicle. that's recommended to put off the sale till the tag place of work is open, and you ought to purchase a enable. Getting caught using with out tags/insurance/and in common terms a invoice of sale exhibiting possession, appears like an high priced cost tag to me.

Once the insurers have told you they've accepted you, you'll be fine. Make sure you take a note of any reference number and the name of the person you spoke to. Be sure, though, that they don't say they've accepted you "subject to the satisfactory completion and return of a proposal form". If they do, you aren't insured until that has happened.

Yes legally you're covered. However if this is your first car and first time out on your own go careful and remember what your instructor told you! It's all too easy to get pushed into risky situations by mates as a result of pier pressure! Not trying to worry you though-enjoy!

If you've insured it under your name then it should be fine. If police pull you over you can tell them the compnay that has insured the car and they can check by calling them so it shouild be fine.
