Yes the oldest trick in the book that works is, when your wearing trainers or any shoe with a rubber sole, simply place your foot on the area and scrape and watch all the fur come up in a bundle as if by magic then vacuum as normal, another way is when your wearing rubber gloves dip your hands in warm water and wipe the area, this too makes the fur come up easily once dried vacuum as normal, these are the methods used by us for years because they work.

I have a Siberian Husky and I quickly found that tape took a lot of effort and time, and was not very effective. Maybe this method will work on your cat??

Go to Pet-co and get a large dog brush, the kind with the small metal needles without the plastic caps on them. Vacuum your carpet like normal. This probably creates a "track" of fur in your carpet. When you are able to see the hair, simply take the brush and brush it out. It picks up most if not all of the hair. If you must, vacuum again. It does take a little time, but you will save your money from spending it on tape and cleaners that fall short. Plus, grooming your cat often cuts down on the shedding. (when you brush your cat, try to brush against the growth direction of the fur. This gets A LOT of under-coat hairs about ready to shed. Then brush as normal.)

Put a trainer or sneaker with 'gripper' soles on

your leading foot, stand on the other foot and

pull the trainer back towards you tight

over the carpet. Put the small bundles

of cat hair into carrier as you go. Works

    well on stair carpets too.

Use one of those lint brushes that remove little balls from sweaters or wrap your hand with masking tape with the sticky side out -- unless the carpet is so delicate that you would pull out all the carpet hairs..

The only way I know of is, go out to the store and buy the largest slicker brush you can find. Start in one corner of the room on the rug and brush. It will pull most the the fur out. This takes a long time to do but will get most of it out.

There are several cleaners on the market that one of their advertising points are the removal of animal hairs. Obviously you are going to have this problem for some time so its worth a little investment

  • Sellotape

Cut about 8 x 1ft length and stick them together side by side. You end up with 1 x purpose made cat hair remover!

ps my cat use to like being hoovered before she died.. she was 21 years old and blind a deff so it didnt seem to bother her but it was fantastic for getting out hairs that had dropped off but the cat i have at the moment runs a mile when she sees the hoover even if its turned off

if you have a hoover with a pipe on use it the opposite way to the pile on the carpet sellotape or brown parcel tape or a damp cloth

i've got 5 cats--and carpet--definitely get a vac with beater bar and hepa filter....if you have to wait to get one-try the pledge fabric sweeper for pet hair...they are supposed to be for one use---but that is ridiculous...just pop out one of the rollers when it is full....clean it out and replace the roller. thing works great-just be sure to follow the instructions...
