Where can I buy a desktop with Ubuntu pre-installed?
I may soon be looking to buy a new desktop, and I think it's likely I'd be approaching an internationally well-known vendor. However, I have been looking around the market, and have so far not seen a brand new desktop that isn't packaged with Windows (with the exception of Macs, of course). As I have no intention of using either of those operating systems, and don't want to pay extra for an operating system that I'm never likely to use, I'm looking for a good, powerful computer that is shipped running Linux, preferably Ubuntu. Can anyone help?

Dell sells laptops and desktops with Ubuntu pre-installed. There aren't much places to buy a computer with Ubuntu pre-installed. It would be cheaper to get a computer with no OS installed and you can then install Ubuntu on it!
Hope I Helped :)

Dell Computer used to ship with Ubuntu installed, but Dell -- by and large -- sells to noobs their first computer and Dell has to expend a bunch of resources to teach their customers how to use the computer. Thus, the reason why you only get Windows (on the desktop Dells), and OEM Windows at that. You can only refresh your copy of Windows, you cannot install to another hard drive. If you try to ship back a computer to Dell without the original Windows, Dell won't honor the warranty or the return of the hardware for credit.
Dell still offers Ubuntu on their laptops and netbooks.
If you order a custom computer without Windows you save $100. However, I am seeing $600 systems with Windows 7 pre-installed and the hardware is built with quality parts. That's what I do any more. It is cheaper to get a good system. I then install a 2nd SATA hard drive in the box to dual boot Ubuntu / Win7. After that, wait for the 3 year warranty to run out and then I can get rid of Windows. Win7 is terrible, it won't network with other computers.
It is very easy to install Ubuntu. I would look for a custom computer maker and flip through the ads in a computer magazine. Dell makes an OK machine, great for the price only and for 4 years of non-upgrades use, Dell is OK. You want like some of the following
1. Mini tower computer box
2. ASUS motherboard
3. AMD 64-bit CPU, hexacore
4. 4 meg or more of RAM
5. 500 watt Power Supply Unit
6. nVidia Graphics cards, (there are other cards, but nVidia supports Linux best)
7. 500-gig SATA hard drive
8. Front panel plugs for headphone, USB
Get you a 22-inch flat screen monitor and you've spent just under $900. If you build it yourself, you spend about $810, so a custom computer builder company is better.
Also look for Linux Magazine and peruse their ads. There were 'nix boxes in that magazine.

Unfortunately, pre-made desktops with Linux installed don't sell very well so they tend to get discontinued. Dell and HP both used to sell computers with Ubuntu pre-installed, but they stopped.

unfortunately this is rare, there's a company i know of in canada that does this. Dell has been more acceptive of ubuntu, but i'm not terribly fond of dell.
I think the market is weak because they assume you can build your own desktop if you know linux.

I would suggest shopping around for a barebones kit that you can assemble yourself and add your favorite OS.
