Right from birth you can always lay them on their bellies on your tummy (its called tummy time) and that helps them. Once they are able to hold their head up enough to see around then they are ready for the floor. Try getting a mat with a pillow on it for underneath their chest that has worked wonders for my son!

    -good luck!

I think a little tummy time from the get-go is a good thing. If you wait too long they end up fighting it! That's what my daughter did. If they don't get tummy time it could slow down their development so be sure you get that tummy time in. As far as sleeping on tummy, my daughter started doing it on her own toward 9 months or so, she would just roll over onto her tummy to sleep. By then, there is no stopping them.

My daughter was a day short of a week old at her well baby check up since we were in the hospital for about 4 days when she was born but our doctor told us to start tummy time then... just ask your doctor and they will tell you but my baby started at a week old! and she is doing wonderful!

You can do that anytime. Some babies really hate it, and will only tolerate it for a minute or two. That was my first son. Then my twins, when they were out of the crib, preferred to be on their tummies and hated being on their back.

I've heard 2 months, sometimes even a little before then. It really depends on your baby. If he/she is able to respond to his or her air passages being blocked by the floor, then it's fine. But if your baby just lies there with her face buried in the floor, then it may be a little too early.

Start at about a month old. It's called tummy time. It's very important for their spinal development.
