In most cases, can students receive free school lunches?

I know two families that might be eligible for this privilege. One student has a 72-year old father. Another family of students has a deceased father. Will students qualify for free lunches under these conditions?

in both cases no on just those facts alone. Schools go by family income and also take into consideration on how many kids are in the family. And it isn't just automatic. Families who wish for their kids to receive free lunches have to fill out paperwork and then the school will decide if the child should get free lunch.

Free lunches are based on the family income.
