Dog being clingy.. Do I need to stop it?

My dogs always been clingy, but it was mostly that she felt the need to be in the same room. But these past few days she's wanted to be RIGHT there. As I type this she is climbing in top of me, laying one front paw on my chest. Earlier, she kept tring to cuddle under my arm. She's been like this all day, worse then she's ever been in her life.

What could be causing this? Is there any need to stop her from doing this? If so, how? It's beginning to annoy me.

Thanks in advance!

Yes there is a need. The very fact that it annoys you should be enough not to mention that there is no reason to promote such an obsessive need to be close to you. Normal dogs can be away from their owners for long periods of time. Start by confining her away when you are busy, at night etc in a room, crate or whatever. If she cries, ignore her.

  • is your dog BORED OUT OF HER MIND?

Do you walk the dog at least twice a day, every day?

do you spend much time actually playing with the dog? i mean like more than 2 minutes.

How long has it been since you took this dog to a park, or a Petsmart, or a dog class, or anywhere at all?

THIS DOG MIGHT BE BORED TO THE POINT OF GOING BONKERS.

Try teaching the dog some tricks or cues, this is extremely satisfying to the dog. Dogs love love love to get a rare chance to actually use their minds. Teaching a dog cues or tricks is fun, easy, and only takes FIVE MINUTES a day!!!

Go to DogTrickAcademy to learn how to teach some tricks to your dog. It totally increases your bond to your dog.

EDIT: When i recommend playing with your dog, etc, IF you do it after she jumps on you/begs for att'n, well, then, the dog will quickly learn, "if i beg, bother mom, THEN she will paly with me!"

which is not what you seem to want this dog to learn.

so play with her when she IS NOT pestering you, when you catch her being cool, THEN go over and play with her. that is what i meant...

practise leaving the house for short periods and be sure to make no fuss of him as youre getting ready to leave.wait out of sight for a few minutes then return and as you come in it is vital that you dont pay him any attention until he settles down.finally when hes calm give him a stroke.make sure everyone in the house does the same and he Will soon learn that his calm behaviour is rewarded and the crying is ignored.i know this may sound a little cruel but it does work and its giving too much attention that will make him anxious when you leave.good luck love tron x

Well, maybe she's just bored and needs love <3 Try playing with her for a little while, and try to wear her out so she will go to bed. Or give her food or treats and make her lay in her bed and stay there. Sometimes you have to shout, "DOWN," but not too harsh that it will scare her and make her sad.
