Is this relocation stress (bearded dragon)?
Last Wednesday (July 2) I purchased a healthy baby bearded dragon from PetSmart. Usually, I would adopt from a rescue, like most of my other pets, but no rescues in my state (that I could find) had a beardie available for adoption. And they were the only one that sold them in town.
The people there were really helpful when it came to the basics (although I do plenty of research otherwise) and he seemed pretty active in the tank with the others, if not a bit tired (we bought him in the late evening) and since then, he's been basking normally and pooping normally, etc. But he hasn't eaten much. The night we brought him home, he ate a few small pieces of watermelon and the next night a bit of broccoli. He didn't eat anything else until Friday evening, when he ate one cricket. And although I provide him with plenty of water in his terrarium, he didn't drink anything (that I saw) until earlier tonight, and that was in a bath.
The temperature in his habitat is usually between 90 degrees F and 105 on the basking side. On the cooler side, it's between 80 and 90. At nighttime, it usually drops down to 70.
He's basking and sleeping regularly, and he also has a tendency to jump from perch to perch, and he runs around plenty, it's just he hasn't eaten as much as he should.
As this is my first reptile since I was 11, I'm not sure about relocation stress and how it affects them. From what I've read, it sounds like it, but I was just making sure. Sorry for the long question!&TY!
2 AnswersReptiles7 years agoPossibly a blind guinea pig?
I rescued a guinea pig yesterday. He came from the Humane Society (the only place I could get one other then PetSmart, and another local pet store, that mixes males and females that didn't require me to travel hours to get to). The vet wasn't sure how to treat cavies, so didn't give much of a checkup to him at all, so they couldn't really say anything.
I didn't notice much yesterday, but today, I was giving him some lettuce and dandelion greens, and he didn't even seem to notice them until I put his nose right up to it and he smelt it. Also, when I was trying to pick him up out of the cage, he didn't seem to notice me until I touched him. I put my hand in front of his face, and he didn't even flinch or make any attempt to move until I pet him, then he freaked out. My mom done what I've seen almost everybody does, flinching your hands towards his face, and he didn't blink or move, he seemed oblivious.
His eyes don't look cloudy or anything, as blind eyes usually are.
http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/21513246 (his Petfinder page). You can see his eyes look normal and alert.
We're taking him to the vet later this week. I just wanted to hear thoughts first. He doesn't seem to be too effected so my family decided to wait until this semester's over or else it'd be sooner.
Thanks!
3 AnswersRodents9 years agoVets' Opinions on Prey Model?
We're starting to transition into a PMR diet, the dogs have been getting RMB for months though. But I'm kind of dreading telling the vet. I'm thinking about telling them I feed some random dog food, so I don't have to hear it.
My vets are fully against raw feeding like the stereotypical veterinarian.
Any other raw feeders having these issues? What do/did you do when your vets gave you crap about it?
Just out of curiosity. My vet always asks what I feed before giving an exam.
Thanks everyone!
10 AnswersDogs10 years agoHas anyone rode "Windseeker" at King's Island yet?
xD Sorry for posting late.
We're going there in a few weeks and I want to ride Windseeker. But I'm a *little* afraid of heights (not severely, I can handle it). I was just wanting to know how it is. Everyone says it's kind of boring, but I'm not big of thrill rides. Boring is my style. xD
Has anyone rode it yet? How was it? Did you like it?
I'm just a little nervous. It'd really help.
Thanks. :D
4 AnswersAmusement Parks10 years agoA portion of my dog's ear was torn off..?
First off - I already took her to the vet. She is in surgery now..I just have a few questions about it.
And we have NO idea how it happened, no one was in the room!
Anyway, what I was wanting to ask was:
Has this happened to anyone else before? I'm kind of scared about it.
Does it ever heal 'normal'? I really don't know how to explain this..It kind of looked like a piece of paper, 'jagged' is the only way to describe it. It was about (more or less) 1/4 of the ear. Nothing TOO major that the surgery won't fix.
What is strong enough to tear the tissue of a dog's ear? We have a few flower pots in the room, but nothing sharp. My other dog was there, but he was a rescue and doesn't have many teeth. The one's he does have is SMALL. He has a hard time chewing bread, let alone skin. If we give him a raw bone he has a hard time getting through the thin skin if it has any. So it beats me how it happened.
Sorry I'm asking so late. I just got the chance..we just got back from the emergency vet and I won't get time to ask tomorrow. I'm going to have to take care of her.
(This is the dog that's in my avatar, BTW).
Thanks you! :)
3 AnswersDogs10 years agoHow much of a raw chicken thigh should my dog get?
We might start feeding 100% Prey Model Raw diet soon, but for now we are introducing raw meat plus kibble. (Not at the same time, not even in the same day, and the day before they get Blue Buffalo Wilderness canned). So far we have fed pork necks, and tomorrow we are giving chicken thighs.
We normally give pork necks but since tomorrow we ARE giving them a chicken thigh, I was curious about how much they should get.
Each of my dog's weigh around 20-25 lbs.. (That's the average for them both, it fluctuates often for some reason). They get one can of BBW a day, or half mixed with half a cup of TOTW. There is 373cal/cup per TOTW dry, and 450cal/can of their favorite formula of BBW. The chicken thigh has skin, and the closest thing I could find to the amount of calories in one was 135 cal., which is certainly less then what I feed now. I don't know if that's the cal content in a raw one, this was sources off of the Mayo Clinic site.
We were planning on feeding one raw, with bone, to each dog. Would this sound about right, or should they get more or less?
Sorry I've been asking a lot about this lately. And how late I post..the only time no one else is on is before supper and before bedtime.
Anyway, thanks and let's hope some experts are actually on. :o)
3 AnswersDogs10 years agoIs it safe to feed your dog raw meaty bones when you feed kibble?
I know it sounds like a strange question, but everywhere I read said to use RMB to clean dogs teeth, so I decided to try it.
We skipped out for a few months because of family reasons, but we decided to try again because they work so amazingly well.
We gave both of my dogs some the 9th, and one of my dogs started throwing up the tenth. It was only a few times, so we didn't worry about calling a vet. She's back to her old self now.
Anyway, the vomit was basically stomach acid and a few pieces of bone. We thought she may have just caught something, and bone just came up.
Do you think the RMB caused it? Or that she just got sick, as humans do sometimes. They were pork necks, (the vertebrae of pigs, obviously). This is what we always give when they eat raw bones.
We feed TOTW Wetlands, mixed with Blue Buffalo Wilderness (All kinds) wet and Simply Nourish Sweet Potato and Salmon dry as well. (They get less then 1/8 of a cup of this, a day, though-it's high carb/low protein).
Do you think it's a good idea to feed RMB when I feed kibble, or should I just brush their teeth? One of them can't get their teeth cleaned professionally by a vet because she cannot go under anesthesia. It makes her extremely sick. It's kind of a long story but we don't want to make her go through it anymore unless absolutely necessary. The other dog, well, he can, but we have to talk to the vet about getting him scheduled.
The same dog that gets sick over anesthesia also got sick over the bones.
Sorry this is so long and drawn out, I didn't intend to tell life stories, haha.
Thanks much!
5 AnswersDogs10 years agoHelp me understand these dreams I've been having since I was little?
I've been having these same dreams since I was very little. I find I have them mostly after a family fight or even get-togethers we have throughout the year, even if I had a good time.
These dreams are all different, but have the same concept: My family abandoning me because they don't want to die or get hurt themselves. I can recall having these dreams often, but can't remember them, or at least the important details.
I can remember the first dream like this and the latest the best, though.
When I was little, (3-5 years old), I had this dream: Me, my mom and my grandfather were at my grandparents house and we heard a sound coming from the hallway, (which isn't surprising because I was always terrified to go down it), and a gnome-like thing came out. They got rid of it and it froze, not in ice, it just stayed still, and put it in the kitchen. This happened 11 times, and they told me on the 12th time "we" would hide. When it did, they hid and I didn't, leaving me exposed. I immediately woke up before anything happened, though.
In my more recent one, we slept out in a place where someone was murdered. There was a pulley system with buckets for carrying water in the center which, doesn't make sense in the "real world", but the murderer came up through there to kill someone sleeping in the green chair. (Don't ask, it was a dream). I don't know why, but everyone was thinking that he was going to come back, so my aunt made me sleep in the same green chair, and right at the foot of it was the pulley system. When she decided to change spots, we slept out on the balcony. It still doesn't make any sense to me why. But there was no railing, leaving about a 100 foot fall to the ground. When I said "What if someone falls off?" she takes the same chair and puts it right next to the edge, smirking at me. I ran off and my mom and grandma chased me, before they caught me, I woke up.
Does anyone have any idea what causes these dreams? I've only had one traumatic experience in my life: I watched my grandfather (the same one mentioned up there) die. It was unexpected and I saw my grandma performing CPR, which, being only almost 10, terrified me. Then the doctors, ambulance workers, and everyone thought I was involved somehow in his death and I was questioned. A few days later, I found the dead body of my long-time friend, my dog. (It may not seem like to big of a deal, but for me it was). The dreams have gotten worse since then, but started long before this.
Thank you to anyone who can make sense of this, and who kept up reading the whole thing without getting fed up. :)
2 AnswersDream Interpretation10 years agoBald spot coming back on my dog after four years?
Hello DS, I'm aware of what time it is, I just need to make this quick.
Earlier tonight I was brushing my dog with an average brush then a flea comb. After a little over half an hour I had a pile of shed hair bigger then my hand. That's normal for her, she's a beagle/Italian greyhound mix, she sheds a lot every year. What concerned me was that it had numerous skin flakes in it. She has dandruff, but it hasn't gotten this bad.
Four years ago she had an allergic reaction to something, and got a HUGE bold spot on her thigh, which went away after we applied something (I don't remember what) the vet gave us. Today I was looking at her and it's coming back. I thought it was just the food, (back then it was Gravy Train.. -.-) until it came back today. Now she gets TOTW Wetlands formula and we alternate between that and the High Prairie.
http://tasteofthewildpetfood.com/products/dogs/dry...
http://tasteofthewildpetfood.com/products/dogs/dry...
She's only allergic to grains (not poultry or beef or any meat), except for rice and she never even gets that. And my other dog gets the exact same thing and his skin is perfect, and they have about the same allergies.
We're taking her to the vet Wednesday, and we're taking the handful of fur I combed so they can have a look, but I was wondering if anyone may know what it was already or they've had something reoccurring like this before.
Thanks!
4 AnswersDogs10 years agoPedigree's sad attempt? What do you all think of this?
This is a little late, I meant to post this question ages ago. But Pedigree recently released two videos on YouTube about the benefits of by-products and corn.
By-Products: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkkXMhDFyv4
Corn: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VERwDt4He8Y&feature...
I can see what they're getting at with by-products, (I still don't feed them though!) but the corn makes barely any sense. They claim it helps the dogs digestion and is a great source of protein and carbs.
What do you all think of this? I personally laughed to no end. It's more funny then factual.
Thanks!
4 AnswersDogs10 years agoWhat soaps, shampoos, and deodorants that are Vegan that's available at Walmart, Meijer, etc.?
I probably won't buy from Walmart, though.
Anyway, we don't have a Whole Foods until the next town over which takes a long time to get to or else I'd get "Jasons" from there.
I'm already a Vegan diet wise, the only thing I have to switch over is cosmetics and cleanliness supplies like shampoo and deodorant. Right now I use Dove, but I know that's not Vegan..
Anyway, if it's not too much trouble, what brands would you recommend? I'm having trouble and since I'm new to Veganism, I don't know what to look for and what to stay away from.
Thanks!(:
5 AnswersVegetarian & Vegan1 decade agoI bought my first orchid, I need some tips?
Today I bought my first orchid today. I bought a Cattleya, which I now now isn't right for beginners.
Anyway, I need tips. Like, how to water it correctly, I've heard you use an ice cube every 5-7 days.
I didn't know about the different kinds until today, unfortunately after I bought it. I heard that temps should be about 80 degrees, but it doesn't stay that warm in my house, and as of now, I don't have anywhere else to keep it (I might by this summer) that's that warm.
I wanna get involved in orchids a bit more, I think it would be a great hobby. (:
Thanks!
3 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agoVitamin B12 Sources for Vegans without taking multi-vitamins?
I've heard nutritional yeast has it . . Is there anything else other then Multi-vitamins? I want a variety and not have to swallow yeast everyday.
Also, how much do I need?
Sorry it's so short; I almost always add at least 5 paragraphs to a question. It just seems weird to me. -_-
Thanks!
8 AnswersVegetarian & Vegan1 decade agoI am REALLY confused about what to do?
I have never been in this section before . . lol.
Anyway, on with my question.
I'm LOVE my best guy friend, I'm only almost 14.
I didn't like him at first, the first time I saw him, I thought, "Huh, he's kinda cute" then I began to talk to him even more . . then it turns out we have A LOT in common. We like the same bands, the same music, shows, prefer the same breeds of dog, we even have the same taste in people! In fact, he told me a joke about preps the other day, he just walked up to me and told me. And every time I post a picture or status about something that happened to me, he'll be the first to comment with something like "Are you okay?" or something. Then, once he was EXTREMELY sick; like, the symptoms of the flu+throwing up extremely badly. During that time I rescued a beagle, and ended up cutting myself. (Not on purpose) and for some strange reason I posted a picture up. He was the first to comment, and we had an ongoing conversation about our beagles!
At first, I thought he might like me back. Then, one of my friends was passing notes with him (We're aloud to in this class) and I glanced over. (I didn't mean to peak, I barely even noticed this girl had a note!) He had written a whole paragraph, but I saw only three words "I like ___" (I censored out the name . .)
Then, (this was only a few weeks ago) one of my friends was like "Valerie, who do you like? Huh? Huh?" My other friend told him, she gets up and told him. When she gets back, she just says "He says he was 'frightened' and ___ said he wants to go out with you."
I just rolled my eyes. He knew I liked him and he didn't like it. My friend convinced him that I didn't and he began talking to me again.
Then, on Facebook, on that 20 Questions thing. I saw there was a question that said "Would you hook up with [My name]?" "No." I racked up the coins and it was HIM! I almost pulled my hair out and broke down crying. (I know, not a big deal but, still)
Plus, he's "in love" with some other girl. She's already said no and doesn't like him back; but he still likes her, almost obsession.
The thing I'm confused about is: I REALLY want to tell him I like him, but every time he thought he knew I did, he was terrified to talk to me. It's happened twice, I just didn't mention the other time.
He probably suspects I *really* like him, but he talks to me anyway, which is good.
I dream about this guy . . not a day goes by I don't imagine life together with him . . (That's probably kinda corny . .)
Should I tell him, just to get it off my chest?
Sorry the story's so ongoing, I had a lot to tell.
Thanks!(:
1 AnswerSingles & Dating1 decade agoSwitching over from Vegetarian to Vegan?
I have been a vegetarian for years, (Except on occasion, chicken) but I recently discovered the horrors that go into the Egg & dairy industry so I want to become a Vegan But I keep having these urges for dairy things, or things with cheese on them, like Cheetos.
Is there replacements for all these things? Like Cheetos, cheese ravioli, Ranch dressing, mayonnaise, ETC.
Also, where would I get this? Not any online stores, though. Maybe a store website with a store locater?
Oh, I'm also looking for a BBQ sauce, I checked the ingredients & they're wasn't anything bad. (I use BBQ sauce for the "alternative" chicken) Speaking of Alternative chicken, what do you think of this brand? http://www.gardein.com/index.php I LOVE this stuff(:
I'm also still weaning myself off of dairy products (I'm over eggs) Is that okay? I still went ahead & ate the last bit of Mac 'n Cheese, & I still have Ice cream. (Do they have Dairy free Ice cream?)
If there's anything else I need to know, please tell me (:
Thanks(:
7 AnswersVegetarian & Vegan1 decade agoIs this a big enough cage for a Dwarf Hamster?
Not sure of exact breed though. Possibly Russian or Robo? http://i1094.photobucket.com/albums/i460/ValliM/20...
Anyway, sorry to get off track. I've always had hamsters in 10 gallon aquariums, as that's what all pet stores & breeders in my area use. After doing research I decided to make her out of the bin cage. This is the biggest one I could find http://i1094.photobucket.com/albums/i460/ValliM/20... or I would've gotten a bigger one. I measured it & it's 1.5x2.3 (Almost, not exact though). That's like 3 sq. ft. (If I did the math right.)
I'm just curious if this is big enough. I wish it could've been bigger though.
Thanks(:
7 AnswersRodents1 decade agoMy Facebook was disabled, I sent them an Email, how long should it take them to respond?
I tried logging in to my Facebook account about 20 min. ago and it said "Your account has been disabled" This is the second time this has happened to me but I recently discovered that I could email them. I did so on two different ones I found (disabled@facebook.com being one of them.) I wondering how long it takes them to respond, and if they'll possibly get it back. I posted a link to my friend of a video telling her Happy Birthday right before it was disabled, but they told me that it had something to do with my High School. I have got back together with many lost friends on Facebook and I was devastated when I discovered.
Has this ever happened to anyone? If so, how did you get it back (If you did) and what all did you do?
Thanks, it's appreciated. (:
2 AnswersFacebook1 decade agoDog being clingy.. Do I need to stop it?
My dogs always been clingy, but it was mostly that she felt the need to be in the same room. But these past few days she's wanted to be RIGHT there. As I type this she is climbing in top of me, laying one front paw on my chest. Earlier, she kept tring to cuddle under my arm. She's been like this all day, worse then she's ever been in her life.
What could be causing this? Is there any need to stop her from doing this? If so, how? It's beginning to annoy me.
Thanks in advance!
6 AnswersDogs1 decade agoConvincing my mom to feed my dogs homemade again?
I was feeding my dogs a homemade diet a while ago. I used to feed them cooked not raw however, like boiled chicken, turkey, beef, ETC. (As I said before, my dogs won't eat raw, except for the occasional raw neck or so)
But a few weeks ago my mom told me no more, which annoyed me a bit. My dogs now get TOTW. Since we've used it, (At about a week) my dog has been losing weight, increasing tearstains, dandruff, all the bad stuff she didn't have when she was on homemade.
My mom seems to think everything but the food. She even said the new shampoo we got them is causing all
this. O.o
Anyway, I told her all this & she acted like she didn't care much. She did agree to feed homemade for about a week and see if it gets any better. But even so she won't keep them on it. :/
How to I convince her to stay on it? Just simple logic other then "She's getting dandruff." Lol :)
Thanks!
6 AnswersDogs1 decade agoDoes anyone else have a friend with a sad story, ETC.?
Hi!(:
I'm normally in the DS but I wanted to ask this Question out of curiosity.
I have 3 friends that when I think about being in their position, I start to cry.
Two of my friends moms have died. One's mom died of cancer while the other of diabetes.
The other friend has cancer herself. Although I don't talk to her much, (I just never get the chance or I would..:/) One of my friends is one of her Best Friends and said she was dying.:(
I was just curious asking this. I'm pretty much the only one of my friends without a sad story to tell..
