Possibly a blind guinea pig?

I rescued a guinea pig yesterday. He came from the Humane Society (the only place I could get one other then PetSmart, and another local pet store, that mixes males and females that didn't require me to travel hours to get to). The vet wasn't sure how to treat cavies, so didn't give much of a checkup to him at all, so they couldn't really say anything.

I didn't notice much yesterday, but today, I was giving him some lettuce and dandelion greens, and he didn't even seem to notice them until I put his nose right up to it and he smelt it. Also, when I was trying to pick him up out of the cage, he didn't seem to notice me until I touched him. I put my hand in front of his face, and he didn't even flinch or make any attempt to move until I pet him, then he freaked out. My mom done what I've seen almost everybody does, flinching your hands towards his face, and he didn't blink or move, he seemed oblivious.

His eyes don't look cloudy or anything, as blind eyes usually are.

We're taking him to the vet later this week. I just wanted to hear thoughts first. He doesn't seem to be too effected so my family decided to wait until this semester's over or else it'd be sooner.

Thanks!

I havead guinea pigs for a long time and i had one that was like that once. She wasnt blind she just was very calm and open to alot of things. Now im not saying that he is not blind im just saying that tha tha could be whats happening. try to put your hand close to his eye. Or another thing is try putting your finger on his nose and go up to his ears from there. That can sometimes alert him at what you are trying to do. Thats so when you go to pet him he doesnt freak out. Oh and its really normal for a guina pig to jump when you pet him. I hope this is a little helpful! :)

try waving your hand in front of his eyes and see if he reacts to it and put him on the floor and put obstacles in the way and if he bumps into them then he might be blind

maybe put him on the ground and put stuff on the ground and see if he runs in to it
