I need to ship old hunting rifles to a friend?

My question is, who can best do this? USPS would seem to me to be very resistant to shipping weapons, so would UPS or FedEx be better/worse. Any advice out there?

No ammo will be sent and I will freely disclose and declare the items.

Legally, you need to ship it to yourself, "in care of" your friend. That is, ship it to :

    Danny goodfriend,

    c/o Me Myfullname

    235 Whereabouts street

    Somewhere, TX

Since your friend cannot legally open it (until you give him express permission), you are not completing a transfer of any kind.

Legally you can not ship it to yourself, because under the law he would not be able to open the package. Only you can

just box it up and send it UPS

It is also illegal to lie about the contents, so don't do the old "auto parts" routine someone is bound to come up with

If you are in the same state you can just ship person to person

If you are in different states you must ship to an FFL

I shipped my rifle USPS to the manufacturer. I disclosed the contents, no FFL, no problems.

UPS is really your only option. USPS are anti-gun so forget it. As for disclosing it I am not sure. I know ammo has to be disclosed as its counts as "flammable" but not the gun itself.

You have to talk to your ffl dealer about shipping them unless the rifle was made before 1899

Wrap it up, put it in an unmarked box and ship it UPS. You should have no problem.

You didn't say where you both live.
