Could I REALLY be retaining this much water?

lright everyone, so JV States is on Monday and I plan on wrestling 171+2 for a weight class of 173. I am currently 176.

2 days ago I started a supplement stack of SuperPump 250 and OxyELITE Pro. SuperPump is a pre-workout supp, and OxyELITE is a thermo.

Yesterday I weighed 174.1, and ate less than 1500 calories. I also had a pretty intense wrestling practice, with a 20 minute jog/run (2.5 miles in 20 minutes) and 4 minutes of sprinting.

What I ate yesterday:

-6 hard boiled eggs (no yolk)

-shredded chicken sandwich

-2 ham steaks (with 1/8 cup of maple syrup)

-1 can of sweet peas

I woke up this morning and weighed 176. WTF?

What I am thinking is that the ham steaks, which are GROSSLY high in sodium are causing me to retain this weight.

Combined, they equal 150% of the DRV of sodium. Do you think 3,000mg of Sodium could be causing me to retain 2lbs of water?

If so, how do I get rid of that water by Monday? I am currently drinking 64oz of water, and plan on taking some diuretics. Will this help?

    What do you mean “taking some diuretics”? It sounds like unhealthy supplements.

    Diuretics are drinks like alcohol (don’t drink alcohol to lose water weight...just be aware that drinking alcohol dehydrates your body), tea, cranberry juice, and food like cucumbers, watermelons, cabbage family (like cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, collard greens...), fresh tomatoes, asparagus, artichokes, beets, carrots, lettuce, raw onions, radish and horseradish, oats, melon, celery and parsley.

    I’m very sensitive to water retention (sodium) and water loss (diuretics). I eat ONE slice of ham, I gain 2 pounds of water retention by the next morning...which is okay because I’ll lose it in a couple of days, hopefully not in the middle of the night, waking up with a full bladder.

    I can only drink tea if I have water retention with salty food, otherwise I would pee too much.

    This is why some recipes have ingredients that complete one another. For example, cabbage is a diuretic so you have to eat it with something very salty in order to not dehydrate, like the “corned beef and cabbage” recipe I cook for St. Patrick’s Day...or sauerkraut/sausage combination or adding ham/bacon to your lettuce, tomato, onion sandwich or when I make one of my favorite recipes...cauliflowers with ham in a buttery white sauce, covered with bread crumbs in the oven finale (gosh, I just made that and there is no leftovers as somebody else beat me to it).

    You’ll get rid of the water weight by Monday (even by the day after tomorrow) but avoid anything salty, not just ham/sausages/bacon/salami and movie popcorns and chips and soy sauce and V8 and cheeses, but any processed food and CANS...sodium is used for conservation so even your can of sweat peas was a no-no, sweat but still a sodium monster. A 15oz can of sweet peas has almost 1,400mg of sodium. And don’t use cans with 30% less sodium because 30% less sodium of a lot of sodium is still a lot of sodium.

    And eating hard boiled white eggs? I love those but nothing goes better with eggs than a dash of salt...again I’m not the one having to mind my water retention weight.

    You get enough sodium in your diet without having to add any (you only need 460mg to 920mg a day) but you surely get too much sodium on a daily basis because of salty food, processed food and cans (don’t go over 2,400mg/day on a daily basis or it will become a health problem).

    Until Monday, if you like eggs and chicken then do not use any salt but use herbs. Include parsley (that’s a big diuretic for me). Rotisserie your favorite pieces of chicken with herbs and spices (everything except the salt). Make white omelet with herbs like chives (you can use one yolk for color/texture/savor).

    Instead of peas in cans full of sodium, cook lentils/beans/yellow or green peas from scratch (you have to sort them). Add an onion and a carrot.

    Eat a good steak or some good meat. Even if I eat a filet mignon that cooked wrapped in bacon (I don’t eat the bacon of course, as all the flavor transferred to the meat, just discard it), I’ll lose about one pound of weight on the scale the next morning after eating a good steak or filet mignon (beef tenderloin) or osso bucco (veal shank). It has something to do with the protein in meat that also has a diuretic effect (I read something about this but I don’t need to read about it as I can judge for myself).

    Wow!

    I know how important making weight is at Regionals and State but you are taking serious risks with this garbage "medicine" at your age.

    There have been kids that have died from cardiac arrest from doing what you are attempting.

    Hopefully you will read this before the matches.
