how long does it take for birth control to be effective?

i take the 28 day ORTHO-CYCLEN...i am a sunday starter but i got my period last sunday so i started the day i got it (if that matters) i've heard it takes effect the day you i've also heard it takes 7-14 days and i also heard it takes a month...

    Usually, it is best to wait 3 or 4 weeks.

    There are varied viewpoints on this subject.

    Some of the newer pills are supposed to be effective sooner.

    But, to be absolutely sure, wait at least 3 weeks.

    And use supplemental B.C.
