Is government necessary?
Belgium has not had a national government for 8 months now. People go to work, kids go to school, the trash gets picked up.
So it makes me wonder. Why do we need Washington DC? Seriously? Belgium seems to be doing OK.
If your answer is going to be as basic as "it's a necessary evil" then explain why.
How come Belgium isn't falling apart?

The previous federal government is making things run.
Schools and trash are not a federal occupation.
Belgium is falling apart, that's why there is no government. The majority of the Belgians don't want to give Belgium up, it's the politicians who do.
You need Washington DC because the United States is your future, every state on it's own, with the exception of a few will be in serious economical trouble without DC.
Belgium has no government, in other words the internationals don't think Belgium is that interesting anymore. Even though the figures are in favor of Belgium. Productivity of the laborers for example is one of the highest in the world. But as there is no leadership, there is no long term security a stable central gov guarantees.
Anyway if you let the bureaucracy do everything that's asking for corruption and trouble.
Yes, a government is necessary.
By the way, Nick S what you say is a nonsense.

Belgium is a relatively small country. It doesn't have a large population nor a large workforce ( compared to other European countries). It doesn't depend on manufacturing ( aside from chocolate :P ) and doesn have much of a military. Belgium doesn't really need much federal government influence for such a small, well, everything.
Countries like the US And pretty much everyother developed country ( developing ones are out of the equation) are too big, in population, economy, military, production, and importing. Basically there's too much going on to not have some government looking after it.
Government in my opinion is necessary. Otherwise some nut job would just step in and declare himself president anyway. Which still tends to happen unfortunately.

Unfortunately government is a necessary evil.
