What will happen to the Formula One 2011 opening race in Bahrain?

Well nothing is certain as of now. The GP2 race has been cancelled.

If the race does get cancelled , many teams especially McLaren are demanding another few days of test at barcelona or any other track. But the teams with smaller budgets are against this decision due to the costs of testing.

So we have to wait for the decision from FOTA.

And yes if the race does get cancelled , the season opener will be in Australia.

It was stated by Bernie Ecclestone yesterday that if the Bahrain GP does not take place, then the season will start on March 27th in Melbourne. They may try to hold the Bahrain race later in the season if an appropriate date can be found and if the situation in the country changes.

In the end Bernie will do whatever is best for Bernie, so until he works out what that is we all have to wait.
