If I could save time in a bottle, what time would I save?

Would I keep it with me all the time?

Would it ever turn to vinegar?

I would save every moment that took my breath away because it is not the breath we breath in life that makes a memory it is the time when something takes your breath away that counts. Yes, I believe that you should keep it with you always in your heart which could be used as your bottle. These moments will always make you shine and never turn sour, so they can never change to viniger.

    I love this question.

I'll answer it with the help of Jórge Luis Bórges. Time does not exist as a continuum. It is more like a string of pearls, with each pearl being a moment. Now, remove the string, and that is time. In and of itself, it is an unconnected series of moments.

Therefore, what was in the bottle would be one distinct moment. Yes, you would keep it with you all the time.

I'm afraid Luis Bórges ceases to be of use to answer your second question, so I must introduce a different concept. Time may be an unconnected series of moments... it is certainly not outside of the ability of a human mind to connect those moments. Then we have the string of pearls again... this time WITH the string. It's still not a continuum. Intuition allows the string of pearls, but not the continuum. So, yes that single moment in the bottle could turn to vinegar. Heck, it could turn into wine! Whatever your mind decides IN A DIFFERENT MOMENT is what it would be.

If you want a physics answer... time (supposedly) travels (if I am allowed to dumb this down, a bit) at the speed of light. Therefore, time does not exist with respect to itself. Or, at least, time does not move in time. On a beach you might see a smaller wave riding atop of a bigger wave... time doesn't work like that. Time cannot age, so it wouldn't turn to vinegar. I assume if you took it, it would stretch out space around you... so it would be with you all the time.

This is all relativity-based, by the way.

If you were to trap time in a bottle, you most likely would leave a pocket of anti-time behind. Not quite sure if that would be good. :) Now we are getting into quantum mechanics.

Let me contradict myself immediately (as is the nature of modern physics today). Relativity and quantum mechanics do not like each other. If you took a piece of time, you would not be able to know with absolute precision what piece of time you took. So, it would not completely be with you all the time. The contents would change over time. You wouldn't be able to save a discrete quantity of time in the bottle. With a fresh infusion of time from time to time (hehe), I don't think it would turn to vinegar.

Now cummon.. you know that's a good answer. :) Thanks for the question.

I think saving the best moments would be my first thought, but then again like replayed memories they would become sad when the ones I shared them with were no longer around. I guess the old saying "You can never go home again" applies. So I would save free time and use it when I am stressed and need a break--they wouldn't sit long enough to turn sour!

    Every bottle saves some time.

    The time from molten mass

    to razor shards of glass.

If cut, I'm sure I'll bleed.

    How much is saved I'm

    just not sure, perhaps less

    than it took to read

    this poem made to rhyme.
