Should I cancel my Mexico vacation?
My boyfriend and I are scheduled to go to Cancun on Vacation the 1st week of March and we are staying for 4 days. We are a little worried with all the intense coverage of killings going on in Mexico and are being warned by family and friends not to go and to cancel our trip. How safe is it in Cancun? Would it be best to cancel the trip to Cancun and go somewhere else?

You are probably safe since, at least to date, Cancun and the surrounding area is not where the violence is occurring. Most of the violence occurs in towns close to the US/Mexico border and are, of course, a result of the drug cartels battling over the lucrative drug trade. The only resort area to really feel the effects of this ongoing war is Acapulco as the port there is a major smuggling point for drug shipments from South America.
Current travel warnings are for northern Mexico near the US border and US Citizens are encouraged not to drive in this region. Travel where you are going is safe and as long as you take reasonable precautions (the same as you would in any city in the world) you should have a relaxing and enjoyable time.

Your listening to people that have no idea what Cancun, and the Mayan Riviera is like. We have visited several times now, and find the area very safe. We tour outside of the resort quit frequently, and never had any problems. Your in more danger living in the US, and Canada. The Mexican boarder in the north is a nasty place to be, and this is what everyone is hearing about. Also Acapulco is having a few problems with the drug cartels. Cancun is over one thousand miles from the trouble spots. http://www.voyage.gc.ca/countries_pays/report_rapp... This web sit is what I go by when travelling.

Why must this question be asked 5 times a day for 2 years now?
You should rebook for Orlando, Los Angles or New Orleans. Oh wait those places are much more dangerous than Cancun.

Cancun is very safe to travel. Specially in the hotel zone wich is a little island with only two bridges to get there.

My family used to go to Mexico all the time. Not any more. Too much going on.
My sister was going to go to Cabo for 10 anniversary. Not going now.
Go anywhere other than Mexico. If you MUST go to Mexico, stay away from border areas and baja peninsula.
I would just stay away period.
It's not just the taxi drivers being killed. It's the drug cartels getting seriously out of control. And Americans are at risk.
This has been going on for a long time and is escalating. Journalists are fleeing the country because even they are in danger because they are reporting what the cartels are doing.
Until the cartels get out of the government and are finally under control, I would stay away.
Really a shame because it is such a beautiful country rich in culture.
I miss my visits but I value my life even more.

Cancun is very safe. The violence in Mexico is mainly in the North along the border towns.
The taxi drivers killed last week did not happen in Cancun.

dont cancel your trip. cancun is perfectly safe. The "narcos"(the cartel that kills people) only goes after certain people. If you didnt do anything dont worry about it. Cancun is perfectly safe

If Mexico gets much worse, it will be like the US!
Prohibition still does not work does it?
