A man died and found himself walking along a road with his childhood pet - his favorite dog whom had been dead for many years. He assumed that he needed to follow the road to get to where he was supposed to be, so he continued on with his dog at his side.

Along the way, he came to a sign that said, "HEAVEN" and shiny, beautiful gate with a large well on the inside. All of his friends, co-workers, and family surrounded the well, and he was thirsty, as was the dog. The people at the well celebrated, drank, and generally appeared to be enjoying theirselves.

The man stepped up to the gate and approached the guard. "May I come in and have a drink of water?" he asked.

"Sure," said the guard. "But your dog can't come in. No pets allowed."

The man, baffled by this, continued down the road, unwilling to leave his dog to fend for himself. Eventually he came to another gate on the side of the road. This gate was old and wooden, with no sign, and no friends waited by the well inside the fence. An old man sat on a stool by the road, straw between his teeth, wearing dirty overalls.

The man stepped up to the old man and said, "Excuse me sir. I was walking down the road and found another well, but they wouldn't let my dog come in when I asked for a drink. That gate had a sign that said, 'Heaven'. Does that mean that this place is hell?"
