Would the Cardinals think about trading Pujols if...?

If they are out of contention before the trade deadline, do you think they will consider trading Pujols? I always said no when I saw others ask this question, that they were just going to resign him and that the team was most likely going to be in the playoff race in Sept., so they would obviously hold onto him. 

But now that Wainwright is out until 2012, it drastically changes there team. Would it be wise to trade Pujols if they are out of contention? 

Here me out... Everyone knows that Pujols is going to re-sign with the Cards... it's pretty obvious he wants to stay, unless they offer him like $10 million a year he might walk, but if they trade him to another team, the Cardinals would likely receive a few good prospects in return, then most likely re-sign him in the off season. Win-Win situation.

Would doing this make sense? Would it piss the fans off to much to even think to trade the best player in baseball, which would be giving another team a small shot at keeping him? Do they risk losing him, even if the risk is small? I mean, there's no 100% guaruntee he will re-sign if they don't trade him either.

Even for a 2 month rental, any potential playoff team would be an instant favorite if they were to land Pujols, even knowing that it was a 2 month rental. Some teams would trade a couple of decent prospects away if they thought they had a legitimate chance to win the World Series.

I don't believe that the Cardinals will trade Pujols only because everyone, including the Cardinals, thinks/knows that they are the front runner to re-sign him in free agency. The Yankees, Red Sox, and Phillies already have their 1B of the future locked up (Teixeira, Gonzalez, and Howard). In reality, the only teams who have a need for a 1B who have the financial flexibility to fit Pujols in their payroll is the Giants, Dodgers, and Cardinals. Without the top 3 teams in the race, I believe the Cardinals have over a 70% chance to keep Pujols in St. Louis.

On the flip side, if Pujols pulls a Carmelo Anthony-like move and repeatedly states that he would not re-sign with the Cardinals or if the Cardinals feel that their would be little chance to re-sign him in free agency, flipping him for a couple of prospects so they get something out of him is a good idea. It would be hard to name any names now, but a team such as the Angels, Giants, Dodgers, or Rays could trade multiple prospects for him in exchange for a long playoff run. That team would become immediate favorites to win the World Series.

In the end, I believe the Cardinals will keep Pujols because they believe that they have the best chance out of all of the teams in the MLB to keep him.

1)  It's not up to the Cardinals.  It's up to Pujols.  He has a full no trade.

2)  No team is going to give up anything of value without getting him to sign an extension in the 72 hour negotiating window teams are allowed after a trade.

Introduce this thought to the enjoying cards (or maybe the Cubs) and that they are going to call the nut homestead on you once you have given them an exceptionally stable hearty snicker. IF and that i repeat, IF there's a participant available that the enjoying cards could think of roughly figuring out to purchase and merchandising Albert Pujols for, he could would desire to be a 5 gadget participant. the only participant i will think of of that rather is a 5 gadget participant is Hanley Ramirez. yet even then...NO way! Cardinals followers are useful happy you're no longer the team's GM. No offense of course.

He has a no trade claus, they can't trade him. The only way he would get traded is if HE accepts the trade, but he would never do that. He will get more money as a free agent in an open market at the end of the season. In an open market the price with go up with all the interested clubs.

He's the face of the franchise and by far their best player. He's one of the best hitters of all-time...they're not gonna want to trade him...ever. Only if Pujols demands a trade will this ever happen

i could see them trading him if they were out of contention. it would have to be to a team like the red sox, with serios championship potential, for him to accept it. They would onlydo it if they thought they had no chance to sign him. (which would be realistic)

he said he wants to test free agency and he will veto any trade. I actually think the cubs will sign him . They have pena for 1 yr and money to spend.
