Why do we wish upon stars?

For so many years we've heard things like "When you wish upon a star" and "Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might, have this wish I wish tonight". I'm just wondering, what are the origins of humans wishing upon stars?

Every culture ever has legends about the stars. Some say they are ancestors, others say angels or fairies. I mean, seriously, bright points of light in the sky? How could you not have legends? A falling star is pretty rare, so we often wish upon them. Astrologers think that the stars may govern our lives. If that is so, I would wish upon stars all the time.

confident, yet no longer something which could no longer be defined by user-friendly accident. as an occasion, some weeks in the past at a SF Giants pastime, I called out from the bleachers to our lead-off hitter "hey, Freddie, enable's commence this element off with a triple!" Fred Lewis, the batter in question, grow to be approximately 470 ft from me, and could no longer possibly hear me. He hit a triple. Divine intervention? Magic? Or a astonishing batter with an incredible variety of velocity?
