If we were electing the future president of the world, who better than me for the post?

I'm joking about me- it is only a way of phrasing the question.

Who (alive today) would be the best person to lead the whole planet if we could unite under one world government?

Why would they be the best?

(I am curious to see the balance between the purely negative and critical, and those with positive ideas for our future and the reasons for them, in the answers submitted)

Update:

Zaf...

Of course there can be- there is a president of FIFA (football world), there may soon be a president of Europe, in time it is perfectly feasible that there be a president of the world.

As for the differences in ethnicity and religion, that is kind of the point- can we decide on some common interests for the human population of the planet? We all like breathing clean air, drinking clean water, eating, breeding, etc etc. What would be the best way of allowing this to continue for as long as possible? That right... uniting the planet behind some common purpose instead of wasting time and resources believing as you do that we are all 'too different'.

Yikes... sorry, you aren't even close.

you would not be any worse than the leaders of today. it would be hard to come up with one that would be able to control the planet.

it would be a great thing to have just one tax man to pay. but really would it work. i have seen our own small corner of the world be used and abused by the leaders we elected and trusted to insure our rights a freedoms were protected.

the united nations is failing miserably to protect the least of us and in so doing it is harming the best of us. since most of the planet is represented at the UN would you be comfortable allowing them to control your life.

when a business, government or even a household becomes too big to be adequately supervised it becomes instant confusion. even the mafia lost control of crime and they used major strong arm tatics. they are still around but have lost their clout. smaller governments that are required to answer to smaller groups of voters are more efficient and more productive.

there is no government, business, nor household that is too big to fail and in failing there is major fall out and ripple effect. but there are always little governments, businesses and family groups to take over if the atmosphere is right.

at this time there is not one person i would trust nor have enough faith in to put up for this job.

I personally think the idea of a "world president" is a horrible idea. Amongst the many reasons for this:

    - One person simply couldn't make decisions for a planet full of 7 billion people of different ethnicities, social classes, environments, there are too many factors to take into account.

-The idea of any Government or Ruling bodies defeats the object of Humans being free in the first place, and all existing Governments (In the western World) use the media and other methods to benefit Capitalism.

-No one person is "better" than any other person to a degree to "rule" the Earth.

Anyways there are a million other reasons why this is a bad idea, and why people are being manipulated in order to benefit the ruling class.

But for the sake of a joke and to answer your question directly:

    Chuck Norris.

Source(s): I hate the Idea of Governments, also Chuck Norris jokes never seem to get old.
