Miss Soto answered questions from (whoever, whomever) was interested in temporary work.?

It is the object of the preposition from AND the subject of the dependent clause...objects are whomever and subjects are whoever. This is what I don't understand.

The whole clause is the object of the preposition. You're right that it's the subject of the verb in the second clause, so it's "whoever'.

This kind of clause is called a noun clause because it can replace any noun in the sentence. Try moving it and see if that helps:

"Whoever is interested in temporary work stand over there."
