Not likely. Historically this is a bullish year, although I would expect we'll see a couple mini corrections like we just witnessed. The Fed is determined to prop up the market so everybody feels richer, and as long as the economy keeps improving and inflation is kept in check we should be all right.

Keep in mind too that a lot of companies on the stock market are multinational corporations. Which means that even if there are economic problems in the US, they can still make up for it with operations in other countries. So their stock price is not wholly dependent on the US economy.

I've been investing/trading for 40+ years. I suck at predicting the market direction. But I earn my living in the financial markets. Because of my limitations I use strategies that are successful if the market goes up modestly, goes down modestly or remains unchanged in the duration of the trade. And I protect myself, against the rapid up movement or a black swan event (collapse) to minimize my risk.

People will always say this because they are afraid. The market was bad in 2008-2009 but it came back. With the DOW at 12000 I think most of the market is bullish. Remember there is no guarantees. The key is knowing when to be in and when to get out. Follow the news.

Your guess is as good as mine. If it does, and you continue to buy stocks when they become cheap (during such a collapse), your future returns will be high.

If current stock prices are high, future returns will be low. If currect stock prices are low, future returns will be high. It cannot be any other way.

Doubtful, but possible. 2013 would be a better bet.

Even if it does...... it doesn't mean the people that "predicted" it were correct.

My opinion, your opinion or anyoner else means nothing when it comes to the future.
