My long haired horse?

My horses coat is extremely thick and i was wondering how could i get rid of it faster...i brush her out every other day, it takes me at least 2 to three hours and there is still a huge amount of fur! Thanks for the answers :) please no rude comments.

    1. Worm it

    2. Body clip it

    3. Add Flax to the feed. About a handful a day.

If this is just a winter coat and you don't want to clip, elbow grease ;-) You can get one of those little grooming blocks (they're basically lava rocks) they work really well to grab all the loose hair. Curry combs and shedding blades also. If it gets warm enough a good scrubbing bath will help too.

If this is more than just a winter coat (ie- has never been this hairy) you could be looking at Cushings and may want to look into that further.

brush with a shedding blade (if you board some where make sure you sweep up the hair when your done!),

keep the lights on in her stall, the horse's "system" grows a shaggy warm coat, because of the darkness in the winter(read it on horsechannel.com) and if you leave the light on in her stall then that disrupts the "system" and doesn't cause them to grow the hair.

body clip them, wither a hunter clip, blanket clip, or trace clip. make sure your body clippers are sharp and well oiled.

i'm not sure where you live but if its cold, you will need to blanket her if you do clip her or keep the lights on. and depending on where you live, winter is (hopefully, knocking on wood) almost over! and when it is over and the weather warms up you can give her a bath and rent(?) this machine thing, its like a vacuum type thing, and it sucks the dirt and water and excess hair out of your horse's coat, i think you can rent them from your local tack shop, check with them. as for next winter, either blanet her all the time, or clip her when she first starts to get her winter coat them make sure to blanket her well. hope this helps♥

Is it just his winter coat? If so then (and only if you have the right blankets and the horse isn't outside all of the time) you could body clip him. Also, you could try a de-sheddar. If it is his regular coat, then I have no idea. There might be some sort of hair-thinner out there, or once agin, you should body clip him.

You could clip her, but that is pretty much your only option. Just keep grooming, and eventually she will shed out. It might be a little early in the season to expect her to be shedding all of her hair.
