Why do people continually make fun of other people's beliefs?

I was always taught when someone makes fun of someone or something, that they must be very insecure about something. It's fine to give your opinion but very rude to make fun of other's beliefs.

There are some who are here who sadly have very little fear and respect of God. If they were decent human beings they would keep that to themselves and go and joke somewhere else where they wouldn't be offending anyone.

Well that must make it true then!

Well maybe it is, maybe I like being rude.

Why yes There is a "museum" which shows humans riding dinosaurs, ala Flintstones. I would be remiss as an educated person if I didn't make fun of that!

I only really make fun of Scientology, otherwise I criticize people if they act like dumbos.

I'm not really an insecure person I just think some people don't think before they "speak" (type)

"Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions. Ideas must be distinct before reason can act upon them....."

Honestly....how are we supposed to react with people telling us they believe a book that says a donkey talked? Laughing isn't a sign of insecurity. It's a sign that people believe asinine things.

Because most people in the world are bullies: they're only capable to relate to others in an inequal binary relationship: aggressor/victim. Sometimes, they act as victims, sometimes as aggressors.

"Why do people continually make fun of other people's beliefs?"

    Because they're funny.

Take Christians for example, they believe in an invisible man in the sky who gave birth to himself and loves you so much he'll torture you for eternity if you don't believe in him.

And let's not even mention the talking animals.

And insult not those whom they (disbelievers) worship besides God, lest they insult God wrongfully without knowledge. Thus We have made fair¬seeming to each people its own doings; then to their Lord is their return and He shall then inform them of all that they used to do.[] (108)

If we have to respect beliefs just because they're beliefs, does that include Osama bin Laden's?
