Wireless network connection problem with Windows 7?

I have a HP laptop that I have been using with a Netgear wireless router for about the last 4 years that lately I have been have fairly frequent dropouts with my wireless network connection. I recently switched both of our computers over to Windows 7 and I did lose connection sometimes when we were using XP but with XP Windows could usually detect the problem and fix it where Window 7 tries but can never find the problem. Typically I can get everything going again by resetting the router, and the cable modem but would like to fix the cause if possible, or find out why Windows cannot detect and fix the problem as it did when I was using XP. I'm going from memory but I think usually when this happened as I was running XP, that Windows had to reset the IP address to correct the problem. I realize that I could just go on resetting things but the router, and modem both reside in my daughters bedroom and I hate to disturb her in the evening when I have time to get on the computer. Thanks for any advise.

Try Re-installing the netgear wireless dongle and selecting Netgear software for wireless internet NOT WINDOWS by default.

Windows have never been too good with the wireless software, so always use the items own software.

If reinstalling it doesnt give you the option of changing default connection software, look in the settings of netgear software for the option.

Well, according to Microsoft, one option is to update the driver of the wireless network card and check the router manufacturer for firmware upgrade.
