What does "Street Smart" mean?

Street smart is knowing how things work in the part of society that is less formal in it's methods of operation. A person who grows up in the suburbs, goes to college, earns a degree and goes to work at a large company, gets their own house in the suburbs, and has kids who repeat the process is usually not required to have street smarts to accomplish any of that.

In contrast, a kid who grows up in a rough part of town, but manages to stay out of a gang, but doesn't get beat up or bullied, and makes his way in the world without anyone handing him anything has street smarts. He's learned to navigate the terrain, and find the paths he needs to follow to stay out of trouble and get where he can go to become independent of his family and on his own.

the knowledge to survive in your own enviroment. just the knowledge that you need to know around you. A person who has alot of common sense and knows what's going on in the world. This person knows what every type of person has to deal with daily and understands all groups of people and how to act around them. This person also knows all the current stuff going on in the streets and everywhere else and knows how to make their own right decisions, knows how to deal with different situations.

generally street smarts is hte ability to navigate society without getting ripped off,beaten up,or duped in various ways. its like a bulldust radar.one is able to see the nature of interactions they have.
