Actually a small study showed that caffeine consumed after a workout can reduce the incidence and degree of muscle soreness. The amount that was effective in this study was equivalent to two cups of caffeinated coffee.

A muscle cramp, sometimes called a "charley horse," is a common cramp due to dehydration, or lack of potassium, sodium, calcium or magnesium. I am not sure that taking any of these supplements at the time would help, but better to make sure you are getting enough of each of them.
