If gas prices keep going up what changes in the average Americans life will take place?

Will we return to the days of local groceries? More home based business? Will we turn to smaller European style cars? What do you see in your crystal ball. lol

No. We will just have to pay out the @$$ to the 'Powers to be'. And I assure you that they will get theirs in the end.

I was born and raised in England where gas prices have always been at least double here, public transportation was a big thing over there, buses, cheap taxis, trains, and much more fuel efficiant cars, and local food deliveries. Bikes also get a lot more popular too. But with the job market the way it is i think everyone will be trying to do whatever they can.

When a system fails you dont automatically revert back seamlessly and cleanly

You wont see local groceries you will see wal marts looted and burned

You wont see small European cars, you will see the poor and lower middle class on bikes and the rich being car jacked for gas

While we have 1 trillion gallons of oil in this nation

Eventually we'll see a significant decline in consumption just like we saw in the Summer of 2008. This will lead to a significant decline in prices as more Americans start planning their trips, leaving the big SUVs and pickups at home, car-pooling and using Park and Ride lots.

You have to remember, given the HFT algorithms used by modern investment firms, it only takes a drop in consumption of 2.5 to 3% to have a massive impact on futures markets.

For one thing people will stop buying things they don't absolutely need like electronics & some clothing, dining out etc. People are going to lose their jobs.

I own a business where we use diesel all day every day. There is so much competition there is no way I can pass that on to my customers. I will have to eat it or go out of business. I have 12 employees.

Hopefully people will ride bikes or walk more often. America needs exercise anyway.

only person I know is me and it changes nothing since I only drive 3 miles to work each day and my wife drives 6 miles to work each day so I doubt it will change much for us.

I think it will be a temporary thing - maybe a year at most - so no.
