In 1969 that took a lot of courage to read. This should be taught in all civics classes today.

I love Red Skelton. Never missed his show as a kid. We could use a whole bunch just like him now, especially in Congress and the White House.

He was quite an artist. He had a lot of paintings he had done in an art gallery at a casino in Lake Tahoe. He painted clowns. I wish now that I had bought his Freddie the Freeloader reading a newspaper when I had the chance.

    May God Bless.

Great memories! Clean, corny fun. Clem Kadiddlehopper, Gertrude & Heathcliff ( the two sea gulls) and a host of other funny characters. We used to gather around the TV and the whole family watched it together. Later, as an adult living in Nevada, I took my mom & dad to a live performance in Reno. Red Skelton was the Consummate professional, comedian, and patriot. Fond memories of days gone by. He always ended his show with the words: "May God Bless"...words that today would cause a real uproar by the ACLU. Thanks for Sharing!

Was that 1969? Because he mentioned the 48 States. Unless it was just a slip of the tongue for him. I vaguely remember it. Unfortunately we were not united, and haven't been since. We're still a union of sovereign states, that aren't so sovereign any longer.

Hi Sandy. Thanks so much for that link. We have a hard copy and I do remember that night when he presented that on his show.

The following is - how he signed off each week - after his hour - of the greatest entertainment.

    --------------------------------------------

“I personally believe we were put her to build and not destroy.

So if by chance some day you are not feeling well and you should remember some silly thing I’ve said or done and it brings back a smile to your face or a chuckle to your heart ---- then my purpose as your clown has been fulfilled"

"Good Night and May God Bless.”

    ---Red Skelton.

    Wow! What powerful messages.

This clip should be required viewing for all classes at the start of each semester for all levels even though I'm sure most news commentators would scream about "political correctness," and law suits would abound.

I watched the Red Skelton Show each week & this is one show, I have never forgotten, nor will I ever forget. It made me truly take the time, to really listen to what he was saying. We'll never see this on tv again. Thank you for sharing this with everyone.

Nope. I steered clear of anything to do with Red Skelton.

I am not an American but I sincerely hope that the two words are not removed to appease a minority.
