computer problem with my monitor and graphics card?

i have a GeForce 8600 GT graphics card on my xp computer and to get it to work you have to plug your monitor directly into the graphics card. but when i turned my computer on the monitor i use for the card wouldn't turn on. i've taken the card out and looked at it, it seemed fine. i've restarted my computer and that didn't help. when i go to my display settings i cant even attach the second monitor i use for it. also its not the monitor or the cords, i've tried a combo of all of them. any help would be amazing

Update:

i have the graphics driver, the nView, and the system software

Update 2:

the card was working fine for years, it has just had this problem today

something to evaluate is in spite of in case you have become perfect ventilation on your gadget. in the journey that your enjoying cards save loss of life like this, it is the two undesirable production, a defective capability grant unit (no longer likely), a nasty motherboard PCI/PCIe slot, or terrible warmth matters. Many desks comprise an enclosure to "encase" your gadget interior. confident, it seems superb to conceal it, in spite of the undeniable fact that it rather is a terrible thought. Your gadget needs to respire, so in spite of if it is not any longer freed from obstructions, please make confident it rather is interior the destiny. it is going to be in an area the place each and all of the followers are unblocked, warmth can expend far off from the gadget, and there is not any longer a warmth source interior sight (like a radiator or vent).

ok fist of all which connector are you using to hook your monitor to the card ...... because if you are using the DVI connector then you also have to attach the 2 pin white connector to the SPDIF connector on the card and plug the orange cable to the SPDIF pin and the black one to the GND pin on the motherboard ..... refer to the manual of the card and motherboard to locate these pins ....

But if you are using the VGA connector then you shouldnt really have ne problem ... and if the monitor doesnt work then there is some problem with the card ....
