Tragedies like the flood/tsunami and God?

After spending a month as a volunteer helping to rebuild the town of Taray, swept away by a flash flood in the Peru Andes last year, I know something of the great suffering people experience from such disaster and my sympathy goes out to the people and nation of Japan who are suffering a tragedy on a much larger scale than what I witnessed. But I am curious about how religious people deal with this. For me its solely a matter of geology and physics. But if you believe in a deity then the responsibility lies with God. Even if you also believe in the geophysical causes of the disaster, it would still mean that God knew what was going to happen and did nothing to prevent it. And what of the children who died? If you are a Christian, do you believe the children born into families of Shinto worship are now going to Hell? How do you reconcile the events of the last 2 days with the conception of a "good" God?

    - But I am curious about how religious people deal with this.

Religious people are locked in their fantasy world and will invent any story to "prove" that they are correct. When the story is so weak that even the smallest amount of critical thinking would disprove it, they resort to peer pressure and violence to keep their fantasy intact (Think witch hunts, inquisitions, jihads, religious wars, and laws passed prohibiting the teaching of certain ideas.)

Scientifically based people will put out a hypothesis and test it, then submit it for review so that others can test it. When enough independent tests have been run and the results are all the same, the hypothesis becomes a theory. In the rare instance where all possible conditions of a theory can be tested independently and the results pass, the theory becomes a law. In the vast majority of cases things remain in the theory category because not all possible conditions can be tested. Nevertheless, a theory in scientific terms, has been subjected to critical thought processes and as much testing as is possible.

Examples: The theory of relativity isn't a law because we are not yet able to travel at, or close to, the speed of light to prove that it happens. However, it matches all the known evidence.

The theory of evolution isn't a law because we can't go back in time and take pictures. However, it too matches all the known evidence.

    G=generator who made everything.

In this world nothing more can happen exePt these three which r in the hand of god, we r just puppets in hand of god.god did nt gave us that brain by which we can understand god. So god only know what he is doing, we cant understand that.god is one,god is powerfull, god is our boss. We just took our lives on rent from god. He c

An take these back when he wants,my english is not gud+and+no+ won ever can give u any example of god better than this. If u understood my words thats good, if u dnt, then u can never get an example like this, and u will b always in trouble relating to god.

It is true that earthquakes are a matter of geology and physics. But if you believe in God then you also know that only God can keep these powerful forces of nature under control.

Since you have asked for a Christian perspective, what we know from the Bible is that when man rebelled against God, the earth 'rebelled' against man. Actually what happened was, God who alone can keep the nature under control, no longer controlled it as before since man no longer was in complete submission to God. It's somewhat like children rebelling against their parents and then getting burnt in the process. God is aware of all this but He wants more than anything else for people to realize their need of Him and turn to Him. Instead we find people blaming God for the events. All we need to do is to turn to Him and ask Him to take control.

Of course, we also know from the Bible that the natural disasters are one of the signs of the end of this world as told by Jesus to His disciples and they are only going to increase in frequency and intensity. So this is no time to get comfortable or start questioning God rather to turn to Him.

Scientists call the causes of earthquake and tsunami 'faults' in the earth's crust.

Studying the Bible and believing that God who is perfect created the earth can look to many as a contradiction ie a good loving God creates an unstable planet for mankind to live on.

The Gospel that is preached today is the Gosple of Jesus Christ.

But Jesus preached the Gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven.

Jesus said that it would be this Gospel of the Kingdom that would be preached throughout the earth.

The Bible tells us that there will be increased earthquake activity in diverse places, so, sadly anyone of us could experience exposure to seismic activity, many people live in locations of greater risk and choose to stay.

Science has developed ways to make buildings quake proof but cannot prevent quakes.

They cannot because the creator from the beginning had in mind that this world as it is will change.

The Gospel of the Kingdom when studied explains in great detail how and why God built the planet this way.

Most of us only consider this mortal life, we do not study scripture and do not educate ourselves regarding the first and second death.

Jesus Christ came the first time to conquer death. He rose again on the third day.

Those who believe in Him will also overcome death and be resurrected into the Kingdom that is to come. Recall the Lords Prayer 'thy Kingdom come, thy will be done'.

Many people say that prayer having absolutely no idea what they are asking of God.

It is all about the second coming of Jesus Christ and the establishment of the Kingdom of Heaven.

The children who sadly have died, horrific as it seems will all experience their resurrection.

The Bible teaches that they may well receive a double portion of the Holy Spirit at that time, this means they will understand in far greater detail what the Gospel of the Kingdom of heaven really means and they too will inherit eternal life.

Mankind's brain is too small to comprehend the big picture of the plan of God for all mankind.

Gods power is shown throughout the Bible, the events of the last two days should serve to remind all of mankind that our short life is our opportunity to get to know our creator and be in awe of the magnitude of His power and to fear (respect) Him.

Jesus said 'blessed are the poor in spirit, theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven'

Those children and the many adults who have lost their lives fall into the above category, Jesus laid down His life for them too, it's just their opportunity to learn about it will come later.

He's a good God, but bad things still happen. the reason? sin. Adam and Eve didn't have to suffer any such calamities, but ever since they ate the forbidden fruit we all have.

Fortunately, unlike Adam and Eve, we now can have God in our life. See, before they ate from the forbidden tree God wasn't in the Garden. Why would He have been? They lived in a perfect world, why would they need God to be there? It wasn't until they found themselves in trouble that God came in to help them.

And that is where we are now. We still live in a world of sin and suffer the consequences for such a world. But God is in the process of removing sin from the earth and will restore it to its former glory. Except now He will be there making it even better for us than Adam and Eve had it.

See how one gets hope from believing in God? I know Him to be real for I have met Him. Here's my story if you're interested. I didn't see Him on a piece of toast or in a dream, this was real life. And the girl involved is real, so I don't see why He wouldn't have been real too. You will understand from reading the story.

The fact that people suffer and die does not disprove a "good God". God never stated or implied that in this pilgrimage, he would intervene and stop us from experiencing the consequences of life in a physical world that is opposed to him. All die. We suffer the consequences of time and chance, which are part of life. we suffer the consequences of our own decisions, and we suffer from the effects of a "fallen Kingdom" that influences everything still in this world.

The idea that a "good God" would step in and prevent every bad thing to his "followers", if they are good enough, or follow the right formula, is fanciful "religion", and a step above having a genie, or cosmic "bellhop" that jumps to our every whim and request.

Yes, suffering and disaster are horrendous.

I wish they had consulted the gods of geology and physics before building nuclear power plants on a major fault.

One would think that the idea of god would have gone away by now. Don't know what it's going to take, other than death, before people understand that there were never any gods. It's shame so many people waste their lives dedicated to a hoax...

Guess what, there's violent storms and chaos on ALL planets in our solar system. Our's is NO exception. Is God behind violent storms on Jupiter or Neptune? NO. And neither is he behind "every" storm or disaster here on Earth. So stop placing the burden on him every time something happens.
