Internet connection problems. Please help?
We have a wireless internet connection that works fine on both of my macs and my Xbox 360. However, when we try to connect our internet to an HP laptop, it says "currently connected to the internet" but I am not able to use any web-browser. Also, it says that we're not connected to the local area connection, but we're connected to the wireless network connection. We've tried troubleshooting and cannot find any solutions. Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
-G.B.

When devices connect to the internet they are ASSIGNED AN IP ADDRESS.
Your modem has an IP address, and each wireless device connected to this network has an IP address. The modems IP address is called EXTERNAL IP ADDRESS. the devices' IP addresses are called INTERNAL IP ADDRESSES. If you have more than one laptop connected to the SAME wifi network (modem) email sent from all these laptops will appear to people recieving the emails as coming from the same ip ADDRESS THE EXTERNAL ONE. The outside world the internet cannot "see" the INTERNAL IP ADDRESSES, which are therefore private
Also all these IP addresses, the external one and the internal ones are DYNAMIC. Meaning they dont stay the same. When you switch modem off and on again all these IP addresses can change. You'll probably see all your DYNAMIC IP ADDRESSES change at least once every few days
If you have IP ADDRESS CONFLICT, that is two devices on the network have the same IP address,
which means the device you connect second wont be able to access the internet.
In that case, you need to know how to change the INTERNAL IP ADDRESS OF THE DEVICE THAT IS NOT CONNECTING TO INTERNET
You can assign the new internal IP address as a STATIC IP ADDRESS or one that will stay the same day after day, to avoid IP address conflict.
At the command prompt type "ipconfig/all" (without inverted commas)
write down what it says under
IPv4 Address; Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, and DNS servers
You should see "Yes" for DHCP enabled
Your dymamic internal IP address is the entry under IPv4 address.
To change this, and to a different static one you need to get the home page of your modem
and will need some help to do so
contact your internet service provider, ask what the home page of your modem is
For Britsih telecom you can use 192.168.1.1
you can access a web page by typing their IP address instead of url
