Upgrading my drum set?

I was thinking of getting a new drum set since my old, $200 Sonic beginner set just isn't doing it for me any more (that's what she said) and I was looking at getting this Gretsch Catalina Maple kit from Long & McQuade (http://tinyurl.com/4ufnkrl) while it's on sale.

Is that a good kit?

In case you want to recommend differently, my price range is MAX $800, I have 4 years total experience, and all for have been concert band and 1 year has been concert as well as jazz. I am not amazing but I don't usually have any trouble with any songs I play at school and can catch on pretty quick.

A good kit is a kit that YOU like. There's a lot to weigh up when buying a new kit. Shell construction, diameter, thickness, depth, configuration, hardware, material etc. If you like all (or most) of the attributes of a kit, then it's a good kit for you. The type of drum head you use changes the sound more than the type of timber, so it doesn't matter if it's made out of the same material as your other kit. Just keep in mind that most kits don't come with cymbals.

once you communicate with the olds approximately getting a clean drumkit, be certain you prepare them how severe you're approximately enjoying and how passionate you're for drums.. in the event that they have the money then i think of maximum mom and dad could be happy to do it for you, in the event that they dont then communicate with them related to how you get the money... merely dont take no for an answer. drums are basic, %. a finances variety, bypass to three shops and communicate with the keep assistants approximately what drum kits are avaliable on your style of song on your ideal finances and supply them a bash. that's all approximately what sounds solid on your ear. i've got had pearl, tama kits in the previous, and loved them the two. Sabian b8's, paiste 801's or sabian XS cymbals are solid for what you're doing.
