1) Yes, I've seen shocking vids of slaughter house horrors
2) If I was hungry enough, and especially if I had kids to feed, I'd kill an animal for food without hesitation.
3) Depends on the meat: Chicken is well done, but good steaks I like medium rare. FYI, our digestive tracks are that of omnivores - longer than herbivores, but shorter than carnivores.
4) While it might be educational for kids to see where their food comes from, it would be kinda like taking them to a waste processing plant to see where their poop goes. Let's face it, some things are ugly but necessary.
Every single creature that comes into existence consumes other living things. We cannot live on dead food. Plants have life but their life is seen as less important, although I'm not sure why... life is life. Yes, there are humane ways to treat animals that are bred for food and it would be great if all people had that kind of respect for all living things.
Earth is a school and we are here to learn, but the lessons are not always fun or easy. Perhaps the hardest pill for humanity to swallow is that everything, even the horrific things, happen for a reason, and therefore have meaning and value. The very concept of "right & wrong" is a thing of this realm... beyond it, it has no meaning.

1. Not toured, worked in one. Perdue Farms Inc. processing plant in Salisbury, MD.
2. Have done so on many occasions as a deer hunter. I've killed, field dressed it and hauled it out of the woods. Too lazy to butcher it though. I have a friend who does that for me for a reasonable price.
3. No I would not eat my meat raw. Unlike animals, we are no longer equipped to deal with the pathogens that can be found in raw meats and so cooking is the only safe way for us to eat meat.
Oh and the definition of an omnivore is...
Omnivores (from Latin: omni all, everything; vorare to devour) are species that eat both plants and animals as their primary food source. They are opportunistic, general feeders not specifically adapted to eat and digest either meat or plant material primarily.
So we as human ARE omnivores. We can digest and extract nutrients from both plant and animal tissue and out teeth are designed to handle the mastication of both. You are correct that we are not carnivores as we are not specifically adapted to eat meat.
4. No I would not. The blood and gore would be too much for children under a certain age to deal with. Junior High and up would be my limit although I do understand that the older middle school children may or may not be able to handle it. Each to their own levels of tolerance.

1. Butcher's shop, yeah
2. Pig was huge, i could kill a chicken/duck but the pig was HUGE. i wont be able to kill the pig, but smaller fowls, yes. Or if i could have a gun, then yes.
3. mmmmm........... no, i dont want tape worms. I have eaten semi cooked steaks, medium rare. I think i'll just have medium next time. I realize mankind is omnivor, i do eat my vegetables.
4. Not children, maybe high school seniors. I dont think kids need to be exposed to something that might emotionally scar them. They need all sorts of protein, so why not wait till they finish growing and be old enough to decide what they want?
p.s. our body need 20 kinds of amino acids but can only produce 12 (if im not mistaken), the other 8 need to be taken in as food = meat
im not biased against vegetarians, so i want to kindly asked the pro veggies not to be biased against those who eat meat.

Okay, I'm vegetarian and just to let you know, I am aware that I have the luxury of living in this modern american society where I can choose to eat what I want, but I also know that if I was in some sort of drastic survival-based scenario, I could and would kill an animal for food and I would be grateful for the food source.
Also, I have worked at veterinary clinics where I have had to comfort many animals as they died. Death is hard but it is part of life. What should not occur is the cruelty and suffering the slaughterhouse workers often inflict on the animals before their death.

1. No, but I've seen tours in documentaries.
2. Yes. My granddaddy used to have many animals on a farm... let's just say.... Yes, I would. LOL.
3. I cook my meat until I know it's done.
4. Yeah, I don't see a problem with it as long as they're not doing anything in front of the children (tweens).

Dear friend, U cannot change Asuras(demons) into Suras(divines) with all ur efforts.only the blessed souls like u are blessed by the almighty mother to feel the pity of innocents! what is the use of school trips when some religions teach their younger ones very religiously how to slaughter an animal with utmost cruelty?
- fodaddy19Lv 71 decade ago
1. yes
2. yes
3. no
4. not all ages
Funnily enough, every year, my grandfather goes out to a farm in his town, looks over the livestock, picks out a cow that he determines will be yield the best meat, buys said cow, and pays to have that specific cow slaughtered and it's meat packed. That's the way to do it.

1. I wouldn't want to go to a slaughter house.

2. Yes
3. Possibly, I used to nibble raw meat as a kid, I love raw fish
4. Definitely, I believe kids should understand where their food comes from!
But I don't believe in teaching them garbage like the evils of eating delicious succulent meat.
