Morning sickness, how bad is too bad?

Is it normal during morning sickness to throw up constantly, so much that you get a headache and be dizzy. I have been throwing up constantly since about six, I do have crackers with me and I have been eating them but nothing is helping I'm just very worried.

    Unfortunately, it is normal, but it's not very pleasant.

    The most important thing right now is to stay hydrated. You really don't want to be dehydrated, so drink as much as possible. Take small sips so as not to overwhelm your stomach. Water can sometimes hurt an empty stomach, so try ginger ale with the bubbles stirred out (carbonation can also hurt your stomach), powerade or gatorade, or juice, if you can manage it.

    Other things that might work for you are popsicles or ices, and fruit--a lot of miserably pregnant women find that they CAN eat fruit, so try out different kinds if that appeals at all. For me, I found that I could eat (at different times) strawberries, grapefruit, and thinly sliced golden delicious apples. It was weirdly specific, but it kept me alive!

    You should try having very small "meals"--a bite of a cracker here and there when you can stomach it. A lot of people find that keeping crackers or something light next to their bed and taking a few bites before they even get out of bed in the morning. You will feel worse if your stomach is empty, so keeping food in it--even just a little bit--will help stave off the misery.

    You might also want to try adding peanut butter to your crackers. Peanut butter has protein, which will make you feel better if you can keep it down.

    If nothing else works, ask your doctor for medication like reglan or zofran to help.

    I really sympathize with you.With my daughter I was still sick two weeks after I had her & then it just stopped.I couldn't eat or drink anything not even water, everything that went in my mouth came straight back out. I'm 18wks with no3 at the mo & I have been having the same problem again.Absolutely none of the "remedies" have worked(they actually make me feel worse).I cant eat meat & one day something will sit right with me & the next it doesn't. Tastes,textures,smells, well just about anything can set it off at the most embarrassing of times( Like the school parking lot when picking up the kids lol). Unfortunately I cant give you any help with the "it will go away" thing that everyone talks about. The only good thing I find solace in,is that my hormones are still on a rampage so everything is ok( I think I'd be worried if I wasn't sick anymore). I have found that eating(well when I can keep it down) a little bit every hour (a biscuit/slice of apple etc) actually makes the hollow feeling your probably feeling at the mo,not so bad.If you find something that you can definitely eat,eat it even if it's not that great for you.A little bit of something is better than nothing at all.     when i was pregnant, i had morning sickness that would last all day. But never did i get a headache or dizzy from it, i would assume that's from the pressure of throwing up. But i would contact ur doctor just to make sure everything is ok. You can also ask him about some medication that they give for morning sickness. There is pills you can take. Hope this helps!

    Too bad is if you can't hold down much or most of your fluids. Dehydration is really your only big concern.

    I had pretty bad morning sickness for all of my first pregnancy. But because I didn't get dehydrated I was never put on anti nausea meds. And although I never gained much weigh my baby was healthy.

    With my last pregnacy i threw up litterally all day on and off for two weeks. i actually thought it was the H1N1 that was going around before I learned I was pregnant. I did get headaches from it, because my sinuses are crap and the throwing up strained my face, as weird as that sounds lol. And directly after i was dizzy. BUT since your dizziness is not going away I would go to the DRs, you can get very dehydrated from vommited and may need a quick IV to give you some fluids. Better safe than sorry right :)

    It may develop into hypermesis, which is very dangerous.

    If you vomit heavily and often when pregnant, you will lose so much liquid (together with nutrition and minerals) that it causes dehydration.

    If you are dehydrated and can't keep liquids down, the condition is called hyperemesis gravidarum and requires medical attention.

    This usually involves hospital admission and being given fluids through a drip.

    How can I avoid nausea?

    In the morning

    Take your time getting out of bed.

    If you tend to feel really sick in the morning, eat a little as soon as you wake up and before getting out of bed.

    Ask your partner to bring the food to you, or prepare a snack the night before and leave it beside your bed.

    Throughout the day

    Eat little and often, every two or three hours - even if you're not hungry.

    Drink a lot of liquid, preferably 10 to 12 glasses of water, fruit juice or herbal tea each day.

    Avoid food containing a lot of fat or spices.

    Avoid alcohol and caffeine.

    Eat dry crackers, toasted bread or rusks.

    Ginger tea or ginger tablets can help reduce nausea.

    Rest several times a day. Lie down with a pillow under your head and legs.

    Move slowly and avoid sudden movements.

    After eating, sit down so that gravity helps to keep the food in your stomach.

    Avoid smells that make you feel sick or throw up.

    Don't brush your teeth immediately after eating because this can cause vomiting.

    Get some fresh air and exercise by going for a little walk every day.

    Avoid smoking. Not only is it harmful for you and your child, it also diminishes your appetite.

    At night

    Before going to bed, it may help to eat a snack such as a yoghurt, bread, milk, cereal or a sandwich.

    If you wake up during the night, eating a small snack may stop you feeling sick in the morning.

    Sleep with the windows open to get some fresh air, if possible.

    When should I consult my doctor?

    If none of the remedies mentioned above seem to work.

    If you vomit more than three or four times a day.

    If you lose weight.

    If your vomit contains blood or looks like ground coffee.

    If you lose more liquid than you can keep down.

    If you are dehydrated (see box above).

    If you are worried about your condition, or believe that something serious is the matter.

    What will the doctor do?

    The doctor will examine you for signs of dehydration. A simple urine test (ketone test) is often helpful in deciding the degree of dehydration.

    Anti-sickness tablets can be prescribed. Your doctor will be careful to ensure you are prescribed medication that does not harm your baby.

    Long time ago when I was pregnant i was sick 24/7 from 6 weeks to 37 weeks but I didn't have the dizziness, you should speak to your doctor. Good Luck

    Call your dr. if it is that bad they can give you safe meds during pregnancy to help with the nausea. It is important to keep down some of what you eat so both you and the baby are getting good nutrition and staying hydrated.

    For me ginger ale, popsicles, and crackers were enough to get me through but if it is making you concerned definitely talk to your Dr. They are there to help.

    Morning sickness is "too bad" when it takes over your life, which it sounds like yours may be doing. Call your dr and get an appointment. They should be able to put you on one of various anti-nausea pills. The pills usually induce sleepiness, but I found that I'd much rather go to sleep than be hanging over the toilet.

    Call your doctor and they can give you some pills to help with this. There is no reason to suffer like this when there is medication out here that will help you. I had sickness with all my pregnancies day and night. I know it sucks but just give your doctor a call.
