he attempted to indirectly infringe it by restricting ammo by attempting to force ammo manufacturers to put ID codes on all ammo boxes and cases, registering all ammo sales and banning reloading of ammo by the public. by doing this, he'd indirectly disarm the public, something frowned upon by many people since it's a step towards government takeover and dictatorship, the bill never passed, thank god.

He wants to but he can't. The kind of voter backlash that would happen especially with all the promises he has made to dems in red states it could easily blow up in his face. So they have been rather moot about it.

Now he wants to pass CIFTA but the senate being what it is I'd doubt it could get 67 votes. And the house judiciary the panel in the US house that gun laws would go through have already stated they won't even allow a panel vote on any gun bill. So his hands by normal political means are tied. So hes going to create a meeting for an "NICS improvment" act that would end private sales and make people arrested but never charged or convicted of drug possesion prohibited persons. The NRA is not taking part and the CCKBA (I think that's what there called) are going but there going to see if they will remove any laws on the books and ask him about all the guns the ATF gave to the mexican cartels to inflate there numbers to get more funding.

So far Obama has not made any SERIOUS attacks towards the 2nd Amendment. He knows if he does that it will seriously hurt his re-election efforts. However, if he gets re-elected in 18 months then he will no longer have another election campaign to be concerned about and he will feel much freer to get serious about more gun control laws. As of now though most of the anti-gun organizations are disappointed that he hasn't made more efforts at gun control.

I don't see how. The only gun control he's called for is an instant background check to prevent felons and psychos from buying guns.

Felons and psychos can have their liberties taken away by due process of law, as specified in the 5th Amendment.

And last I checked, even the NRA doesn't oppose preventing psychos and felons from purchasing guns.

He's a liberal socialist. Why wouldn't he? America isn't a republic anymore. We're a, rather obvious, socialist police state. Sad, I know. You may not like it; but, it's true. I believe he has many changes that he would like to make and his first term is the time to set up for those changes. Just look at the people he has put into office and the supreme court judges, like Sotomayor, who believes in a modern interpretation of the constitution. he has made some attemptes to restrict avalibility of ammo(by taxes), but the problem is that if he where to dirrectly attack the 2nd amendment a group of hicks/trailer trash would try to kill him. not a threat, just the honest sad truth
