Are Shrimps A Good Idea For My Aquarium?

I have a large planted aquarium(40g) with parkinson and dwarf neon rainbowfish, redline torpedo barbs, pearl and honey gouramis, yoyo loaches and a bristlenose pleco. Ive always been fascinated by aquarium shrimp eg bamboo, ghost and red cherry. But are my fish too big? Dont want to add some and they become an easy meal for my fish. Also how many would you suggest getting?

With a yoyo loach, barbs, and rainbows, any small shrimp would either disappear very fast or starve. Fancy shrimp (which are expensive by the way) are better kept in tanks with small, passive species, or in a tank by themselves.

You don't need a large setup to maintain some of these small shrimp. A simple, filtered 5 gallon tank will do, and could hold about 15 shrimp. I find it much more rewarding to keep them in a nano tank, simply because you are able to observe the behaviors of the shrimp more easily.

I checked with your fish, and they all want you to buy shrimp because shrimp are tasty. They're not just an easy meal, they won't last more than a few seconds.

We could place bets, I think the loach will get them, but a close second is the rainbows.

Your fish should be fine with some shrimp since you have such a big tank. It is hard to tell with fish if they will eat them or not it really just depends on the fish. You can go with ghost shrimp to start with, because they are only 33 cents at your local petsmart. Make sure they have a good place to hid like caves and drift wood, shrimp are know they are small and make a good meal. So they feel more secure with plenty of hiding places. I personall y like ghost shrimp because they are fun to watch swim and you can see their food in their insides. Cherry shrimps are very pretty as well. Try out the Ghost Shrimp and if they survive try cherry shrimp they ad some fun and color to your tank.

I hope this helped you out a little bit, have fun with your Shrimpies!

you may positioned the Ghost Shrimp in with the Betta. I did and that they lived mutually wonderful. merely are not getting too many. How massive is your tank? i might get the smallest shrimp from the puppy save, the bigger ones are older and could not stay too lots longer once you carry them domicile. They do an excellent interest on assisting with retaining the tank air purifier.

I love shrimp as well, but I have to agree with the answers, your fish will eat them. :/
