What happens to a tire after a Stem valve change?
just had to replace a stem on one of my tire because i had a flat and the techs could not find anything wrong with the tire. so they just covered all bases
My question is what does changing the stem do to the integrity of the tire and what happened to the other stem hole? what it patched? used again?
forgive my ignorance!

the valve stem goes into the same hole that the old one came out of. you have to separate the bead form the rim and physically mover the tire out of the way so that you can remove the old one and install the new one. after it is in place the tire is reseated on the rim and air is added. its not a great deal really. i have patched a tire in my living room successfully. if that valve stem was removed, then it was disposed of.

The valve stem simply presses in to a hole in the metal rim located on the inside diameter of the rim near the lugnuts. To replace it they just pull out the old stem and pop a new one in. It has no effect on the integrity of the tire.

The valve stem is mounted in the rim. It doesn't actually contact the tire in any way. No worries.
